  2. Paint pops up at random times

    Hi Larry,

We acknowledge that you would like to remove an application from your computer. However, MS Paint is one of the built-in applications of Windows 10 and cannot be removed. As for the issue regarding your email, kindly provide us the information we need below
for us to effectively assist you.

    • Are you getting any error messages when opening your emails?
    • If yes, tell us the exact error message.
    • When you stated that "No matter what I try to download paint pops up" are you meaning that the Paint application is the one opening your image files?
    • Which version of Windows 10 are you using?
    • Have you made any significant changes to your computer that may have triggered the issue?
    • To remove the possibility of your programs being blocked, are you using any third-party antivirus programs?
    • If yes, have you tried to disable them and check for any pending updates and see if it helps?

NOTE: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should
re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

We are looking forward to your response.

Windows 10 PC locking up at random times

There isn't much info to go on. It could be overheating - whats going on when it locks up. Or it could be a bad drive - check the SMART data. A good thing would be to check the windows log files.

Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste these commands:
    1) sfc /scannow
    2) dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
    3) chkdsk /scan

    4) When these have completed > right click on the top bar or title bar of the administrative command prompt box > left click on edit then select all > right click on the top bar again > left click on copy > paste into the thread

    5) msconfig (in the pop up system configuration > move the dot from normal startup to selective startup > uncheck load startup items > click service tab > in left lower corner check hide all Microsoft services > in the lower right side click disable all > click apply or ok > do not reboot)

    6) taskmgr (in the pop up task manager > click on the start up tab > click on status so that the column sorts with enable rising to the top > right click on each row with enable and change to disable)

I use crystaldiskinfo to lookup the SMART info. The useful SMART attributes are things like reallocated sector count, reallocation event count. Ideally they should be 0.

Are you only experiencing lockups mostly during gaming?

Edit-- ok you title says "locking up at random times".

If you did not make any prior modifications of the system configuration view all of the services boxes and see if there is one that was unchecked. If not continue with the steps and we can come back to that at a later time. It may take an in place upgrade repair to fix it without knowing the underlying cause.
