Windows 10: Windows 10 Photos app is getting OCR support for search

Microsoft Photos, which is a free photo viewer and video editor included with Windows 10, is getting a new update with several changes. It looks like Microsoft is A/B testing some interesting changes for Photos and at the moment, the updated app is available for select users enrolled in the Photos app preview program.

First off, Microsoft Photos now supports OCR for search. OCR is a technology that basically extracts text from an image and Microsoft has been working on OCR technology for a while now.

In other words, if a photo contains a text “Hi, we’re getting things ready for you”, you can locate that photo by searching for the text written on it. If you’re required to work on scanned documents and then make a presentation out of it but you’re unable to find the scanned documents (photo), you can easily locate the photo by searching for the keyword.

The are some other noticeable UI changes including new pivots menu and general improvements.

How to get rid of raw file support in windows photo viewer?






I have downloaded this, and it did not work; photo viewer is not in the list of programs in Open With or Default App. I used option 2 step 3, followed by step 5 to 9.

The Photos app brings together pictures from all your devices using OneDrive, so that you can browse them by date, album or folder. It also automatically enhances photos, and creates albums for you, to showcase your best shots.

I suggest you to follow the methods below and check if it helps:

Method 1:

I suggest you to change the Default apps in the setting app and verify the result. You may follow the steps in the below:

• Go to settings and system.
  
• Click on Default Apps and select the appropriately.
  

Method 2:

I suggest you to reinstall Photo app using the PowerShell command
and reinstall using the Windows store. Follow the below steps.

• Open the　Start　menu, type　Windows PowerShell　in the search bar.
  
• Right click on the　Windows　PowerShell　and select　Run as　administrator.
  
• Enter the below command to uninstall the Photo app.
  

• 　　get-appxpackage　　*Microsoft.Windows.Photos* | remove-appxpackage

I suggest you to follow the methods provided below and check if it helps.

Method 1:
Follow the below steps to update apps from store.

• Open Windows store.
• Click on the sign in icon next to the search option.
• Select the option download & update.
• Click on the check for the updates.

Method 2:
I would recommend you to uninstall the Photo app using Windows PowerShell command and reinstall using the Windows store. Follow the below steps.

• Open the Start menu, type Windows PowerShell in the search bar.
  
• Right click on the Windows PowerShell and select Run as administrator.
  
• Enter the below command to uninstall the Photo app.
  
  • get-appxpackage *Microsoft.Windows.Photos* | remove-appxpackage
    

After performing the above steps, install the Photo app from the Windows store.
