Windows 10 - Windows Photos App - trouble with Photos detecting data on SD Cards

I am used to plugging in my Nikon digital camera - or my Samsung Galaxy - and having Photos open automatically and detect ALL of my photos. I would then tell it to upload the new ones, and Photos would create a folder using the date of the pictures in File Explorer.

NOW all I see is "Looking for new photos and videos - 0 items found so far". In the past, even if I had NO NEW photos, my existing photos on the SD cards would appear.

I have never seen this message until very recently, maybe started within the past 2 weeks. Whenever it was, I feel it had something to do with a recent Windows update.

I am losing my mind Googling and searching for answers. I do not enjoy using File Explorer to copy and paste my pictures from my cellphone, nor inserting my Nikon's SD card into my computer, and then using File Explorer... I want the old method of using Photos back!

Can someone tell me what happened? Or if you are experiencing the same issue? I have rebooted, reset, whatever else that is connected to a troubled Windows App, so I do not need that advice again.

    :)

    Photo upload

Usually a digital camera will show up as a Drive in File Explorer, open that drive one of the folders with pictures on it from the camera, sometimes on a MicroSD too. Basically it's not recognizing the camera at all in file explorer ? How is it being hooked up, USB ? Camera App in Windows 10, i never used it, in All apps in start screen. List the model Samsung you have.

Hi Dfitz. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 9 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

Are you following these steps exactly?

    https://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/impo...

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows-8/im...

Here are some troubleshooting steps for USB camera connection:

    https://www.nikonimgsupport.com/eu/BV_article?a...

    https://www.nikonimgsupport.com/eu/locale_setti...

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windowslive...

    https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/articl...

The problem is that Windows 10 USB photo import from phones and cameras is not reliable. For Phones we can offer alternatives like installing OneDrive or icloud on the Phone to wirelessly upload pictures to Windows 10 in the background, but for cameras you
may be stuck with transferring SD card to PC (which itself can have problems).

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.
