Windows 10: Windows 10 Pro - Unable to sign into Microsoft account

I installed the retail version of Windows 10 Pro over Windows 7 Pro and retained my programs and files during the install. The Windows 10 installation was automatically set up for me to sign in via my pre-existing Windows 7 user name and password.


In my resulting installation of Windows 10, when I go to Settings Accounts Your Info and click on "Sign in with a Microsoft account instead," I get the message "Something went wrong Try again, or select Cancel to set up your device later." When I try to sign in to my Microsoft account atFeedback Hub Sign in to get the full experience of Feedback Hub!, I get the error message"Something went wrong Please try again later. 0x80190001." The result is that Feedback Hub is unusable.


I have completed the following actions, but I still cannot select the option to sign into my Microsoft account:


1 Created a new user profile from scratch.


2 Booted into safe mode with networking.


3 Turned off all non-Microsoft services, then re-booted.


4 Set the service Microsoft Account Sign-in Assistant to automatic startup.


5 In the Group Policy Editor, at Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Polices > Security Options, set theAccounts:Block Microsoft accounts option to This policy is disabled.


6 Checked for a user profile in the registry at HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\IdentityCRL\StoredIdentities . . . there are none.


Short of performing a clean install of Windows 10 Pro, are there any other actions I can take to allow me to sign into my Microsoft account?

Windows 10 Tweaks

As you may already know, Windows 10 (as well as Windows 8) allow you to log in with a valid Microsoft account, instead of creating a local account that only works on your machine. However, you may prefer to keep a local account for privacy reasons. If you do, though, some Windows 10 features—like Cortana—may not work. Despite the default behavior, the Windows 10 Store is not one of them. You can still log in to your Microsoft account for just the Store without switching to a full Microsoft account. The process, however, is not terribly obvious. To do so, follow these steps:

• Launch the Store from your Start menu.
• Click the user icon next to the search box.
• Click “Sign-in” from the menu that appears.
• Choose “Microsoft account” and log in like normal.
• When the “Make it yours” box appears do not enter your password. Instead, click “Sign in to just this app instead.”
