    Windows 10 pro won't activate after a hardware change.


    Hello all.


    Recently my motherboard died and I had a shop replace with a fresh board of the exact same model.

    After a while of using the PC again I noticed the ''activate windows 10'' watermark showed up in the corner.


    So I go to the security screen, troubleshoot and select the ''I changed hardware in this machine recently'' option and for the first few hours the servers were not responding.

    Now they are responding and I see my machine on the list so I select it and click activate but it just goes to a ''we're unable to activate windows 10'' screen without any info or error code to go on.


    I don't exactly have a windows 10 product key as I upgraded from windows 7 with their free promotion back when that was a thing so I only have that windows 7 key and they won't allow me to activate with that either.


    Any ideas on how to fix this?

    Hi !

    I ve just did a hardware change and I reactivated Windows 10 using the Microsoft account ! But I see that Windows 10 still activates on my old hardware !

    I was expecting that It won t activate any more on the old hardware ! Can anyone help me ?
