  1. Windows 10 Pro x64 - Explorer.exe hanging due to OEM Photos app?

    Hi,

Having a strange issue, hoping someone can shed some light on this? First, here are my system specs:

Windows 10 Pro x64 - Explorer.exe hanging due to OEM Photos app? t4z9qebbhmd21.png

Windows 10 Pro x64 - Explorer.exe hanging due to OEM Photos app? 3twngh8dhmd21.png

Windows 10 Pro x64 - Explorer.exe hanging due to OEM Photos app? lqt9ih1fhmd21.png

Windows 10 Pro x64 - Explorer.exe hanging due to OEM Photos app? omsmmfvghmd21.png

So my issue is, for some reason the Windows OEM "Photo" application seems to randomly cause explorer.exe to completely hang. However, Task Manager doesn't actually show that anything is unresponsive or any other issues I can tell. Analyzing wait chain results in these, though (there are always two instances for some reason):

Ending explorer.exe and relaunching through Run As Admin does not fix this issue, I basically have to disconnect my logon session then restart (which also hangs for a long time, like around 10 minutes when it should only take a few seconds normally with my build), or be forced to hard restart the system (which I believe is dangerous for my M.2). Also, Photo itself never seems to show up as a process that I can end, although Microsoft App Market does (but ending process on that doesn't help either).

I've seen that sihost.exe is associated with some other issues that can be fixed through cmd (one of the scannow commands, can't remember off the top of my head), which I've tried just in case but it did not fix the issue.

Any other ideas on this? Thanks!

EDIT: Another issue I've been experiencing (not sure if related or not) is taskbar becoming unresponsive to only resizing (pointer will show loading indefinitely; rest of the taskbar and its' context menu are completely responsive, just can't be resized). Similarly, cannot find any "unresponsive" processes in task manager.

    :)

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

    some .exe files hang

In the last 48 hours, some .exe files do not execute. If started from explorer, explorer hangs. No error messages. These files run on another Win 10 machine. Nothing obvious in the event viewer. I note that *.exe file cannot be deleted when the system is in this state. I must reboot to regain access to the .exe file. sfc /scannnow shows no errors.

    Any suggestions?
