Windows 10 Pushes Ad to "Lock" Me Out of My Own Computer

This morning when I turned my computer on, Windows 10 pushed a full-screen Microsoft Ad in my face before it would let me log in, complete with the typical sneaky buttons, etc to trick uses into taking the path they want. First, it tried to set Edge as the default browser. Not great timing while reports of a Crome/Edge zero-day exploit are floating around.https://www.tomsguide.com/news/chrome-zero-day-redux If someone knows how to NOT use a default browser, it's probably a deliberate choice. Then it tried to force me to set up a Microsoft account. I had to click around to figure out how

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

    Ads displayed in Lock Screen

    Hi Subhadeep,

Windows Spotlight is an option for the lock screen background that displays different background images and occasionally offers suggestions on the lock screen.
To turn off Windows Spotlight, go to Settings, clickPersonalization,
select Lock screen, under Background select a different lock screen background.

To avoid messages on your lock screen, you can consider the following:

    • Make sure that the "Get fun facts, etc" on your Settings is turned off.
    • Disable “suggestions” that appear as notifications. To do so, follow these steps go to
Settings, then select System, then click
      Notifications & actions
and turnoff “Show me the Windows welcome experience after updates and occasionally when I sign in to highlight what’s new and
      suggested”.
    • Disable “tips, tricks, and suggestions”. Head to Settings then select
System, then click Notifications & Actions and disable the “Get tips, tricks, and suggestions as you use Windows” option.

Don't hesitate to reply on this thread if further assistance is needed.
