  1. Windows 10 release license question

Hello as you know, windows 10 will be a free upgrade for win7 users.

And as you also know, people have the ability to transfer their windows license (retail) to a new pc.

Now my question is if the following scenareo is valid:

I, a windows 7 user with an ASUS OEM license of the OS does the free windows 10 upgrade. Eventuelly I decide to get a new pc and transfer my windows 10 license to said pc.

Will the above work? Normally you cant transfer OEM licenses, but if I upgrade to windows 10 (recieving a new win10 license), would my new license be eligable to transfer to a new pc?

    :)

    Windows 10 Pro License Question.

I have some questions about recently purchased PC's. We received a large shipment of PC's (500) we ordered a month before Windows 10 was released. They officially come with a Windows 7 Pro License Dell
OEM. Can we use a KMS server to take advantage of the year of free windows 10 licenses? Is there any process to automatically upgrade them other than using a VLK license and imaging them fresh with SCCM?

You should have no problems as you no longer have an OEM license.

  5. I seriously hope that's the case!
I'm planning to build my own pc at summer with a tight budget and if I also have to deal with windows license then I'll be screwed.

  6. Hmmmm, the legal beagles are still writing the pages.

The current rules will change and this is only my interpretation of what's out there.

If the hardware meets Win10 requirements and a user has Win7 Sp1 or Win8.1 installed, then the user can take advantage of the free Win10 Upgrade offer within the first year after the first Current Build of Win10 (what used to be called RTM).

The upgrade will be though Windows Update or Windows Store.

The Win10 license is valid for the life of the device. This is where more information is needed.
What this says to me is: No, you cannot transfer the free upgrade to another machine.

If you had a Retail Win7, you might be able to install that on your new machine (and being very strict on MS licensing ... uninstall it from the other machine.)
Apply the Win10 free upgrade to you new machine.
Re install Win7 on the original machine (this might be bending the rules, but the rules aren't all that straight right now).

The key is: the device (PC in your case) is the controlling factor for licensing Win10.

Who knows though ... MS recently said they would upgrade PCs in China regardless of a valid license or not - they just won't receive support. By the time this things goes live, MS might just give away Win10 for a short while (30-60 days) and you can put it on anything you want. Don't fret yet *Wink

They're counting on a Billion eyes on the advertising that will come along with apps (the games already have that built in, so expect more ad$ in apps, not just MS promotions)

  7. My problem is bigger.
I have a windows 8 license that is an upgrade that Microsoft did in past (promotion low price for decrease license xp number in teh world) for Wxp license.
This W8 license need that I install first Windows XP with original licese.
After i can install over W8 (and if i want i can format old XP before install, but setup must find before and after remove)
Now I hope that i can
    1) upgredo to 10
    2) have a license that NOT NEED to do XP -> W8 -> W8.1 -> W10 at next reinstall....

Now I m waiting for change my MotherBoard becouse I don't want to start again from XP .... I hope that this W10 license solve my problem.

    Windows 10 release license question

Your Win8 licence should activate Win10 directly... I have tested Pro (Retail) and Core (System builder) Win 8 licences and they work. Upgrade keys have a notoriously low activation count with new hardware, thus you may need to phone activate , but no need for the whole XP->Win8 scenario.

The OEM OS version is only good for the original computer. If you upgrade a OEM OS to Windows 10 It is only good for that computer and can't be transfered to another computer. If it's a full retail version than it should be transferable to another computer.

  10. So you tell me that :
Win8 upgrade tell me a license key that need to find old XP
Win10 key that Microsoft send me after upgrade from 8.1 can also be used on new hardware from scratch but maybe i must make phoen activation ? This mean that in setup wizard win 10 key is enough for start installation?

You can do a clean install with your Win 8 key (NB: there are workarounds for clean install with upgrade keys) - here's an FYI.

If MS provides a Win 10 key instead you won't need to phone activate as it's activation count will not have been assigned yet.
Your Win8 key has already been assigned by the activation server, therefore further activation with that key may require phoning.
