    Windows 10 remote desktop issue

I am having a problem getting remote desktop to work with two computers on my home network. The remote device is a notebook running Win 10 Home. The computers at home are running Win 7 Pro and Win 10 Pro. I have the same issue with trying to connect using the internal network or by using an outside network. The issue is that I can connect to the Win 7 computer but not to the Win 10 computer.
On my FIOS router, I have opened port 3388 for both UDP and TCP. I have assigned two static i/p addresses to the computers and I use “no-ip” for access. The Win 7 computer uses port 3389 which is the default port. I can see both ports from either computer with “canyouseeme”. When I try to access the Win 10 computer, I am greeted with the need for credentials. I use the name and password that I use to access the computer normally after startup. But that is as far as I can get. On the Win 7 computer, I use the startup creds and since it works, it has saved them and I don’t have to use them again. On the Win 10 computer, I set up the access to use the local login feature instead of the MS login. The RDP port on the Win10 computer was changed to 3388 in the registry.
At this point, I disabled Windows firewall and my internet security program (Avast) but the results were the same. Still asking for creds that don’t work.
Can anyone shed some light on this matter?

I recently found that I can no longer connect to my HP notebook from other computers on the private network even though I know the credentials to be correct.

Thank you for giving us the edition of your Windows 10. Since you have Windows 10 Pro, your other computers should be able to remotely access your HP computer using Remote Desktop Connection. An issue with the settings of Remote Desktop Connection on your
HP computer can be the reason why you're unable to connect remotely to this device. Remote Desktop Connection is a feature that is only available with the Pro versions of Windows. We have a dedicated forum that handles concerns about Remote Desktop Connection.
It is best that you post your Remote Desktop Connection concern in our Remote Desktop clients TechNet forum. The community members
there can properly assist you on how to resolve the remote connection issue.

    Best regards.

  3. revert from Remote Desktop App from version 10.1.874.0 to 6.3.9600.16419

    Hi Stijn,

I realize the inconvenience you are experiencing with Windows 10. I will certainly help you.

This issue might occur if Remote desktop app is updated properly or there is change in the app.

I suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the Remote Desktop app from Windows Store. Check if it helps.

    Windows 10 remote desktop issue

Hi Kent and welcome to Tenforums.
Sorry, I don't use Windows Remote feature. Have you ever tried Teamviewer? It's free for personal use. It is super easy to navigate, secure, and I've been using it successfully for years.

  6. Team... The only program that my computer illiterate family can use. Not there fault I guess. Nice being able to help them though. How is a newb supposed to survive this? If you haven't already, give it a try. I make a lot of remote calls to techs all over the place and none of them use the remote desktop. I am not sure if MS still does that. Let us know?

    Windows 10 remote desktop issue

    O
It seems the older I get the less interest I have in digging out these problems. I am going to give Teamviewer a good look. Thanks for all the help. I will advise as to the results.

You hit the nail right on the head. Teamviewer installed and working on all three in either direction with headaches gone.
I had heard of TV but what I did not know was that it is free for non-commercial users. The way it worked, I would be glad to pay for it...
Thanks for the very informative tip

    Hi Kent,
So glad you tried it - it really is a superb program. They even have an "Instant Support" version, which, when downloaded from their website, doesn't even have to be installed - it just runs, and you can get into your half-a-world-away family member's or friend's computer for instant help.
Yeah, I would be lost without Teamviewer - or, actually, my family and friends would be lost! *Smile

Please mark the thread as "solved", and have fun!
