Only if people jump on the W10 bandwagon.
Based on the stat site I normally visit, W10 should overtake W8.1 around December or January.

If people (and more importantly businesses) stop installing it and roll back to W7 (or W8.1) MS may find itself in the same position it was in when Vista was rejected.

Honestly that number doesn't seem that great to me especially since it is a free upgrade for most. Of course they want to put a positive spin on it.

I noticed that Windows 10 saved me a huge amount of storage space on my boot SSD (compared to Windows 7).

Since I have a 120 GB SSD, the saving is quite significant.

People going from older OS like 7 or further back may notice big improvements especially if they never tried 8.1. Just a fact 8 started off very bad, 8.1 was a HUGE improvement, sadly most skipped it because of the bad rap. I love my 8.1 Pro with Classic Shell. I'm not going to the even more cloud based 10 anytime soon.

    yes 10 (64bit) is about 11GB
and 7 (64bit) is about 20GB, 8 is about the same

However, I suspect much of this is due to the fact that they removed so many of Windows 7 features from the 10 OS. While smaller, it offers less in functionality, that is the trade I suppose.

What many people don't know is that voice (Cortana) was available in Windows 7, as was touch capabilities. They simply repackaged them in 10 and Windows 8. a little trivia fact.

    Agreed.

Also, W7 has had GBs of updates and most likely large numbers of program updates.
These items seem to bloat up winsxs.

If you do a clean reinstall of W7 and install the latest versions of your software, the overall install size is smaller.

  9. Anyone has any data on how many of the 100M are businesses?

What I am trying to gauge is this: how ready is Windows 10 for business use?

  12. If the 100 million number is true, then it is pretty impressive in my opinion.

NOT -- in my opinion. After all, it's FREE!! And, MS pushed it to folks machines, in some cases, without their knowing about it.

What percentage of current iPhone owners do you think would upgrade to the newest version if Apple suddenly announced that the upgrade was FREE! 95%? 99%?

  14. Free upgrades does not impress board member or share holders or me.
Paid for Windows 10 is how you impress them.
