I was referring to the part about "Stopping work on features", not about Redstone. I specifically talked about Redstone in my post as a separate branch.

Nowhere in that article does it say what the Softpedia article said that Microsoft isn't going to have any new features in Windows 10, and it's just bug fixes. That's the part that Softpedia are idiots on.

I believe what comes from MS, nothing else.

I hope they don't rush it for the wrong reasons. We do not need another Vista quality debacle. From what I see right now (build 10049) they are far from a stable system.

*Ditto But have we ever known Microsoft not to rush things!? Now it seems they want to beat the September School openings and buying time! Sheesh!

What I don't understand is why there's such a rush to beat school openings, since everyone except those clinging to XP and maybe Vista will get a free upgrade. So, if parents buy their kids a new computer for college, it will automatically be qualified for the free updates!

Sure glad that I read all the stuff here on the 10s, otherwise I would be totally lost when it comes to whether I should be considering using Windows 10 as my OS when it is finally released. . .*Wink

Lee, I think we are generally well served with what we have. I will get one copy of W10 (probably in virtual). I still have a couple of unused W7 licenses of which I could use one for the upgrade. But all my real machines work very well with W7 or W8.1.

Four of the laptops are my wife's anyhow and she hates change. Another laptop controls her crafting cutting machine and runs only 1 program. Then I have a Toshiba that I use for teaching at the computer club. If I needed W10 there, I could use the virtual system which is on an external SSD. That's like native from a USB3. I currently run Mint for the Linux workshops like that. My little 11.6" travel laptop works very well with W8.1. This is a so called Instant Go device. I wonder anyhow how W10 would deal with it.

My workhorse desktop in Florida I will never change from W7. And my workhorse desktop in Germany needs to be replaced pretty soon anyhow. Maybe there I will get blessed with W10. For that one I am waiting for new technologies like USB3.1. to come out.

I haven't tried but do you think USB 3.0 flashdrive will work? I have one 128GB PNY USB3 or the 16GB USB3.

I have also used flash drives. But they must have an access time of less then 1ms. This one is a good example that I used. Check yours with HD Tune.

  9. Has anyone considered the reason we are all getting free upgrades to Windows OS 10 in the first year is the full functionality that everyone wants (desktop, Laptop, Tablet and mini convertible gadgets yet to be shown in public) cannot be ready in time. I suspect they will release what they consider to be the CORE SYSTEM for all devices and then over the next year during the free upgrade time roll out features such as AERO and other refinements that have been asked for now begged for and even demanded. I have thoughts of feature packs such as an Aero and Theme changing and Customization pack, Language Packs, Gaming Pack, Office Power User Pack, Laptop Pack, Tablet Pack. All these add ons fool wit the power settings and such like to tweak your machine to do what you wish. These could be sold say for $25 per household. Buy the packs to add on to the core OS. This is what I think Windows as a service entails. CoreOS is free, security updates free but these add on packs are charged for per household. It does not mean you cannot game without the game pack but it would be possible to only enable all the functions on Direct X when you purchase the add on. Remember I have been saying this for over a year and you read it first on 10 Forums.

Why would you want W10 and be forced to pay for something that is currently free on earlier versions of Windows? Just imagine the fun when you have a faulty machine or something errors. "A fatal error has occurred. Please re-enter your Credit card to continue." *Sick

I do not believe everyone wants a Tablet, laptop, smartphone gadgets like these watches. I do not believe that you can have a Core operating system that will run properly across all of these devices. I own one Desktop, an ordinary cell phone that I can talk on. My PC is four + years old and runs fine on Windows 7. I can play COD AW without issues . Microsoft is not a non profit organization, they are in this for the money and they will get it one way or the other. I will have to read the details about this upgrade before I do it. If it is to be free for the first year, I think that one would be wise to wait at least 11 months. But this is only my opinion.

Because MS is changing the rules of the game. It's like giving us free printers. We just need to buy ink.

They are trying to perfect what already in the builds. I tested build 10051 and there is no IE but there is an option to open a website in IE. The mail, contacts and calendar apps have been updated from 10049. The still have 2 stores but the gray one is beginning to look like the green one. I re downloaded The Word and Excel Windows 10 preview and they are working which they weren't in 10049.
