Why not Unix ran across multi-platform for years and years. It not the form factor of the device it's the electronics that allow it to run. You as a consumer may not need Windows on multi-devices but there are some businesses that it would really help. Millions have already been testing Windows 10. I have it on a VM and loaded as the main OS. I removed a Windows 7 SSD and replaced it with one to format and install the Tech preview. I just can't believe the speed of Windows Technical preview.

haha.. I have 2 Epson XP-310 wireless printers only because the second one I bought is cheaper than buying just a set of refill ink. The printer came with a complete set of ink. The extra printer is in the storage. Nothing to do with the topic. Just sharing. *Smile

Windows is not Linux and there is no free lunch. Users will pay for Windows 10 -one way or another. MS is a for profit company and not a foundation. Windows 10 is kind of fast but it also is kind of ugly. My drive is constantly being accessed and it gets really hot. I have 66 processes running. I probably do not need 20 of them. For now I am going to remove this disk and wait for the next Build to come out. Hopefully it will be before Patch Tuesday.

Yeah, and the ink costs an arm and a leg. *Smile Read that HP printers.

All my printers are Brother because they just work with every new version of Windows and the ink is much cheaper; HP printers usually have to be swapped out unless they're the very latest ones out and the ink is very expensive.

Rubbish. Every instance of Windows has been much cheaper than the last. What exactly are you "forced to" pay for that you got free before? The "Ultimate" tier in Vista and 7 was dropped so everyone on 8 Pro gets Bitlocker and changing of language for free. 10 is the same. Are you just complaining about the old TV tuner thing or have I missed something interesting?

Good to know that Office for Windows 10 doesn't work in 10049. I won't bother to test them this time around. They have worked in the past.

I couldn't find Mail in 10049. I had the icons for it, but of course they didn't work.

Yes but it's completely different from 10049 to 10051. It allows IMAP, POP and Google. I tried to set my google using IMAP and it didn't work it wouldn't sync and then when i deleted and recreated I selected Google and it set it up and it synced right away. I haven't checked the other apps. I installed in a new VM and I left my PC where it's the main install as Build 10049. I'm hearing the next released Build will be 10054.

Funny you should say that. The last MacBook I bought I was offered a "free" printer in the Apple store. I wouldn't take it which upset them for some reason. Ink commission probably.

  10. You had to run a Powershell script and then re-download them from the store (The green store not the gray one). The problem was a licensing issue that will be fixed in the next release.

  11. Not the Office 2016 the individual Word, Excel and Powerpoint Modern apps for Windows 10. Since it's getting confusing with the Office products. I didn't test the Office 2016 preview you had to sign that you would give Microsoft secrets away.

You just elaborated what I said.

If it didn't work, blame it on 10051. It's not an official release.

Nope. Not 10054. 10056 screenshots are everywhere on the web. It could be 10060 when it goes out. Who knows. *Smile

Yeah, there's an Office 2016 .msi version, which used to be sold on DVD, but it's my understanding that you can only get it via download now. Then there's the subscription Office 365, which I have. It's $99 per year and you can have it on 5 PCs and 5 Tablets. Why anyone would want 5 Tablets is beyond me. *Smile. And now, you have Office for Windows 10 (Word, Excel and PowerPoint). But that's not all . . . oh no! There is also Office for Android (Tablets) and Office for iOS. Both of these include Word, Excel and PowerPoint and as in Windows 10 are "free". The only gotcha with Android Tablets is that they must be 10.1" or smaller or you have to have a subscription to Office 365.

I tested Office for Android and it's pretty good. However, I would only use an Office app on a tablet if it became absolutely necessary; tablets are sooooooo small.

Just as an FYI, I've tested lots and lots of Microsoft product and have signed numerous NDAs (Non Disclosure Agreements). The only problem with an NDA is that if you distribute information you're not supposed to, you get thrown out of the beta. And for me, that's not a problem at all. I've even bobbled a time or two and was forgiven. *Smile
