After release, I don't give it long before someone works out how to disable the service that denies access to all the functionality that was 'stripped out'*, 'slimmed down' and 'streamlined' out of Windows 10 S.

If this is aimed at Chromebook then Steam support is probably a non issue - As I understand it The way to run steam on a chromebook is to dump the OS completely and run steam through a suitable Linux distro. Now this is a simple enough option if you have the knowledge and desire to "get your hands Dirty", but there are a lot of Students, in non technical areas of study, who just want a "Big Phone". Who knows maybe MS will produce a Steam App for the store and bring steam to All Ten S users *Wink

I would doubt it. You can, however, up grade 10 S to 10 Pro.

I would go as far as saying "almost certainly not".

I must admit I do not understand the rationale about being able to upgrade 10S to Pro - I could see rationale going to 10 Home.

  9. I didn't get that part either? They place it between Home and Pro, but it seems to me, that it has less features than Home? A locked down version of Home if you will. The free upgrade to Pro will likely get people to at least try it out though. There must be a way to lock that out though? If say its used in a school setting and under the control of the school, aka supplied by the school.

I thought that the "free" update to pro was another limited offer for assistive technology users *Wink

I wasn't talking about a "free" upgrade. Maybe there is, maybe there isn't. Just, in general, there is an upgrade path.

Ok, this is why the upgrade is to Pro, from the FAQ https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...ndows-10-s-faq
Windows 10 S is a specific configuration of Windows 10 Pro and has many of its features, but for security and performance it exclusively runs apps from the Windows Store and uses Microsoft Edge as its default browser. For more details on the differences, see the feature comparison chart.
And its not a free upgrade, my bad on that one. *Redface also from the FAQ,
You can switch to Windows 10 Pro easily at any time through the Windows Store for an affordable price; payment is collected through the Windows Store.

Until I can see Win10 S is a third type of win10, so I can rest easy that it will not appear in my PC thru any update. Is it correct?

win10 S will not install on your computer by doing updates.
