Windows 10: windows 10 screen blanks and the pc is unresponsive, although programs seem to be still running

this cropped up just recently, I haven't been able to pin down anything.

It only seems to happen when I step away from the computer for a few minutes, after anywhere between 3 and 15 minutes the screen will blank although programs will continue to run (I can still hear my teammates talking in Zoom, for example)

The comp is completely unresponsive to keyboard and mouse, though, my only recourse is a reboot.

I've tried updating drivers, rolling back drivers, I've run file checker. nothing helps so far.


I'm using an AMD Radeon HD 5450, a dinosaur, I know

Windows 10 Unresponsive Blank Screen After Waking PC.

After closing the lid on my laptop and then reopening it, my laptop will show a blank, black screen that is unresponsive to all keyboard inputs and mouse movements. The only thing I am able to do is to force shut down by holding down the power button. After
restarting, I am able to use the laptop again, but if the laptop goes to sleep, it will become unresponsive. This began happening suddenly and unexpectedly; I did not make any settings changes recently.

I have tried updating all of my drivers and running Power troubleshooter, but it did not fix the issue.

I am running Windows 10 on an Acer Aspire E1-532p

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Programs become unresponsive in Windows 10

Hi,

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried both with different results.

Step 1: Safe Mode:

This seemed to work and I could save a file in Word without the program becoming "Unresponsive".

Step 2: Clean Boot:

This did not work and Word would become unresponsive when trying to save a file.

I did notice another odd thing. It seems that sometimes (not often) Word would work the first time I used it If I close it and reopened it the unresponsive behavior returned. I tried opening Word several time but it remained unresponsive.

This is very frustrating as I use Word daily.
