Windows 10 Search Does Not Find Any Settings or Control Panel Items

This issue is an old issue, but all the older threads are locked, so I created a new one to share what worked for me.

In my administrator account, I created a new Windows 10 user. You have the option of creating a local user so it doesn't require a Microsoft email address. Once that user is created, navigate to:

    "C:\Users\[new_user_name]\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.Search_cw5n1h2txyewy"

    Copy all subfolders.

Paste them in the corresponding location in the user account which is having the search problem:

    "C:\Users\[problem_user_name]\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.Search_cw5n1h2txyewy"

In essence, you are replacing the folders from one user account in another user account.

This worked for me. I tried the other options below, but they did not work for me. Perhaps they will for you.

    1. uninstalling Cortana from PowerShell and then reinstalling Cortana from Powershell do an online search for how to do this.

    2. changing the following registry value:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Search\

    Modify DWORD 'SetupCompletedSuccessfully' to 0

    Reboot

    3. right-clicking on the Cortana icon. Go to 'App Settings.' Click on 'Repair' and/or 'Reset.'

    4. right-clicking on the 'Indexed' folder in this location:

    C:\Users\[problem_user_name]\AppData\Local\Packages\windows.immersivecontrolpanel_cw5n1h2txyewy\LocalState

Go to Properties > Advanced > Check 'Allow files in this folder to have contents...' If it it already checked, uncheck it, click 'OK', click 'Advanced' again and re-check it.

    5. deleting and building Windows search index

    6. specifically adding the following location to the window search:

    C:\Users\billp\AppData\Local\Packages\windows.immersivecontrolpanel_cw5n1h2txyewy\LocalState

    7. restoring to a previous restore point this surprisingly didn't work, even after restoring to a point before the problem began

Well, I hope this will save someone a few hours.

    :)

  3. windows 10 control panel

    Hello,

Thank you for visiting Microsoft Community and providing us with the detailed description about the issue.

As per the description, I understand that you want to know how to access the control panel in Windows 10?

I certainly understand your concern and will try my best to help you.

I would suggest you to try the following steps to open the Control Panel in the system.

Step 1: Opening Control Panel in Windows 10.

    • Open Run command box by simultaneously pressing Windows and R keys (Windows + R).

    • In the Run dialog box, type
      Control
and then press Enter key to open the classic Control Panel.
Step 2: Access Control Panel in Windows 10 from desktop.

    • Right-click on the Start button (Windows logo button at the bottom-left corner of the desktop) and then click Control Panel to open the same.
Step 3: Launch Control Panel using search.

    • Open Start menu or screen.

    • In the search box, enter Control Panel and then press Enter key to open the same.
Note: You can quickly access the search with the help of Windows + C hotkey.

Step 4: Create Control Panel shortcut on desktop.

    • Right-click on desktop, click New, and then click Shortcut.
    • In Type the location of the item box, type the following path.
    explorer shell:ControlPanelFolder

    • Click Next button.
    • In the Type a name for this shortcut box, type Control Panel, and click Finish button. You can now double-click on the Control Panel icon on the desktop to quickly launch the same.
Step 5: Pin Control Panel to Start or taskbar.

    • In the Start search box, type Control Panel.

    • When you see search results, right-click on Control Panel entry and then click Pin to Start to pin it to the Start menu or screen.
Note: Clicking Pin to taskbar will pin the Control Panel to taskbar.

  4. Windows 10 Search Does Not Find Any Settings or Control Panel Items

No settings or control panel items in search.

YOU ARE THE SHIZNIT! Thank you soo much. "point number 4" from that link worked for me. This issue has been bugging me for a while. I think it got hosed from an "optimization" setting in Samsung's "magician" software. I haven't even been able to describe
it, let alone fix it. I did a G search for "windows search no control panel" and found your post here. Searches for things like "Bluetooth", and "user accounts" would not list any of the control panels items in the results. I love that a stroke of the window
key and a couple of letters can get you anything. Way faster that the mouse and start button. Since tinkering with "magician" it seems like magically there were no more of the results I used so often. I followed the instructions for Point 4 on the link you
provided, and now the searches include control panel items. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
