Windows 10: Windows 10 search function stops working

After upgrading from Windows 7 to windows 10 2004, when trying to use the search function a blank window opens. No search box, nothing. I have discovered that if at that point I hit my backspace key, the search function window will show all the normal features and the search will work.... but only one time. After that, not even the blank window opens. No errors in the event viewer pertaining to this at all. I have tried all the trouble shooting methods and when SearchApp.exe is ended and restarted, the blank screen will then return and with a backspace show all the right information, but after that one time it's back to nothing. As an added data point, when I click on the Network connection icon on the task bar, I also get a blank window and nothing I have tried will get anything to show there. sfc /scannow comes up clean. DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth runs successful with no issues. Never had any issues with Windows 7, so does anyone have any thought on what I might try or where I might look to find out how to resolve this strange issue? Thanks....

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps

  Press Windows key + R.
  
• 
  Type Services.msc In the search box.
  
• 
  Select Windows Search
  
• 
  Restart the services and set the service as Automatic
  

Method 1: Run the
Search and Indexing troubleshooter.

Follow the steps below and check if it helps.

• 
  Press Windows key +X, select Control panel.
  
• 
  Change the view by option on the top right to
  Large icons.
  
• 
  Click on troubleshooting and click on the
  view all option on the left panel.
  
• 
  Run the Search and Indexing
  troubleshooter.

  Are you not able to find “view all” in the troubleshooter window?
  
• 
  If you are facing the similar issue as the OP, did you try the suggestion posted

If you do not find “view all”, follow the steps below to run the
Search and Indexing troubleshooter and check if the issue is resolved.

• 
  Press Windows logo key on the keyboard, type
  troubleshooter and select the top most search result.
  
• 
  Click on System and security
  from the right side panel of the screen.
  
• 
  Select Search and Indexing,
  click on Advanced option and check Apply repairs automatically
  option.
  
• 
  Follow the on screen instructions and wait for the troubleshooting to complete.
  
• 
  After the troubleshooting is complete, close the window and check if the changes are effective.

My search is not functioning

1. Use the shortcut Ctrl-Shift-Esc to open the Task Manager.
2. If you see only a handful programs listed by it click on the "more details" link.
3. Locate "Cortana" under background processes.
4. Right-click on the process and select "end task" from the context menu.

The Cortana process is reloaded right away by the operating system.
