The black screen (for 20-60 seconds or even infinite) before login screen is some kind of bug which was introduced some months ago already in Windows 8.1 moslty via some (option) updates. I had it yet on three different PCs, one a laptop. And now had it on Windows 10 too once. I dont know how it is toggled or why it is just a random phenomenon.

I started with an upgrade and got the black screen on boot. It lasted a minute to several minutes, sometimes seemingly frozen. I was planning on a clean install afterwards anyway, but this black screen did not go away. Now it is only 20-30 seconds but it's there on every boot so far.

I've noticed plenty of little problems with Win 10, but I can't say that speed, in any way, is one of them. I don't notice any difference at all when compared to Win 8.1. I would say if you have some serious speed difference vs. Win 7 or 8 that you may have some other problem going on.

My experience thus far. I upgraded from Windows 7 Home preinstalled on my Dell xps 8700 pc with i7 and 16gb ram. Ran great on Windows 7 ( IMO the most stable Microsoft OS since XP or Windows 2000 tho I loved 3.1 aswell).

10 is slower for certain for me. Just general typing in Microsoft Office is SLOW. It seems to try to be intuitive, tho I don't have that selected. The drag is very frustrating. My pc was up to date on my drivers prior to update and I service it regularly keeping off stagnet software, trash bits and fragmented files. I do not won't to go thru the hassle of reloading Dell pre-installed software and countless updates.

Browser isn't terribly sluggish for me just seems a bit "broken". Failures to load pages or broken links is big issue for me. Slide scroll is very frustrating as the time frame from highlighting the side scroll to it actually moving is slow or wont work at all.

I realize many of u will say a "clean install" is necessary and most cases I agree. But it shouldn't be an issue with mine. I keep mine clean and updated and have since day one.

Slow and lagging are terms I am seeing all over the internet for this OS even after freshly reinstalled upgrades.
These are just my opinions and experiences with this OS so far.

I'm just curious. For those who feel, or know, their Windows 10 is slow, what OS were you using when your upgraded?

What do ya reckon that would be? 8.1 was okay for me. Windows 10 seems sluggish overall and lags randomly. This is with a clean install, after optimizing settings and updating drivers.

  9. I have a HP Dv6 pavillion 2nd gen intel i7 4gb ram runs very smoothly on windows 7, however after the update to windows 10 it has become very slower to the point that i can not open more than 2 windows! I want to stay on windows 10 because it has some features that i really liked so i decided to do a fresh install, however during set up to do a fresh install it warned me that i can not roll back to windows 7 after this fresh install. I am worried that after the fresh install my computer will stay slow. Any suggestions on what to do?? And help will be appreciated

  10. I used my new Dell Small Desktop with Windows 10 for the first time last night. Awful! VERY sluggish. Had a few crashes and it took forever to surf the web. I'll likely return/exchange it with Dell for a Windows 7 machine. Or return it for a Lenovo with W7.

So it isn't just the upgrade that is slow...it's also on new devices as well.

@Nadim nasrallah Just backup everything important into the cloud like Dropbox, and just do the "risk"... Installing Windows and setting up programs takes maybe about 30 minutes... Everything is in the cloud today, it's 2015.... If Win10 is still slow for you, then just re-install Win7 (which will take a bit longer because of all the updates), whats the risk?? Nothing... Also I have upgraded now on three PCs, my desktop a Intel i7 3770 (Ivy Bridge), on my ultrabook, a Asus Zenbook UX31A (i5 3317U), and on my tablet. And Windows 10 on all three systems is the fastest Windows ever, in every discipline I can imagine, boot time, coming on after suspend to ram, multitasking, cpu usage in programs/flash/web Edge and so on... Yes there are some annoying bugs, and yes there is some battery drain issues on tablets, but for a laptop and desktop, Windows 10 is amazing. It also let my ultrabook have a slightly lower cpu temperature while doing the same things I did before on Windows 8.1.

  12. But it is running cool on my system.

  14. @mkdr i have all my data backed up in the cloud but the problem is was what if after the fresh install win 10 was still slow as with many users who have done this? I will have no option of going back to win7. And no i havent backed up my computer while using my previous os so restoring to win7 is not an option.
