Windows 10: Windows 10 seems slow

That's not true. You can still re-install your Windows 7 or 8.1 within the first 30 days.

 

What things did you switch off? Did the update and my laptop is very slow

 

How exactly are you going to re-install a previous version of Windows if you have deleted the windows.old file? Not possible I am the one who originally said that you can reinstall older windows within 30 days as long as you don't do a fresh install.

 

You use your Windows 7/8.1 install disk to do a fresh install of Windows 7/81, wiping out Windows 10 in the process. Using an OEM's Factory Restore partition might also work to go back to Windows 7/8.1

 

That's why I always have partition backups prior to do any clean installation. And my personal documents are stored on a different partition too.

 

What part of fresh install isn't clear here?

 

when you do the install and it give you the choice to let them do the setting or customize i did customize and well i read things slowly as i ended up turning off everything one by one then in the privacy setting of windows 10 itself I pretty much turned everything off as well. I put some link to some site you may want to check out. some of it is probably the same reducny but its worth looking at if you want that stuff. even if you think cortana is cool i turned it off. how do you think it learns about you its saves and sends everything use search for to a server back at Microsoft no thanks. google already does that enough and i have a fake made up google account and i have so much ad and tracking blocking on my firefox.

I just back up and restore and just made a image of my pc and laptop. i usually make a image one a month anyway just incase something goes wrong cause my tower nvidia driver have gone wrong and then its like oh wait f this. reload image just update some things problem solved.

 

same here... windows 9 was working fine... and since the upgrade to windows10 the laptop went slow. lagging even to browse on the internet.
My laptop is a i7 with only 2 y.o.

 

I just did the free upgrade. New Lenovo laptop i7 processor 8gb memory and Windows 10 is so slow I'm dying faster that it loads any program. From Chrome to Facebook app. I have to surf Facebook on my mobile while I'm waiting for a google search to happen.

Please I'm not a super geek, as much as I yearn to be, and I need serious help.....
Someone have mercy on a woman who is about to turn her brand new laptop into a frisbee...

Sorry to hear that you're having issues with 10.. and I hope this might help a bit.. but try to be patient with this answer. Some members here have found that with this issues one solution is to perform a clean instillation of the OS(10). Before you do anything make sure that you back up your personal data on something.. DVD,CD,, USB,.,, a separate partition on your lappy. And here is how to make a separate partition: How to partition a hard drive | PCWorld

By creating a new partition for your personal data it keeps you from losing the data if you have to reinstall the OS.

Thank you Jeff.... you are a Godsend to me. I can't tell you how much I appreciate you taking the time to help me. I know how frustrating it can be to deal with those of us that are operating system/ hardware challenged. Don't even ask me how many times I've had to teach my Mom to copy and paste.

If I were you I would definitely partition the hard drive and save you data. I can't tell you how many times that's saved me.

And what is the model number of your lappy.. that might help me or someone else who tries to help out.

Remember for some time after your initial install whether clean or upgrade Win 10 will be downloading & installing updates, latest update for example is near on 600 MEG, also it will be indexing your files (something I always turn off regardless of drive type) several PC's I've installed 10 on have been laggy to start with, you will have no prefetch files if you are using a standard hard drive something that will slow a boot down until Windows establishes it's prefetch & superfetch.

 

Hi Jeff and Reflections...

I'm still having extreme issues. I'm trying to make a bootable USB. It's a brand new 64gb USB.
I downloaded the media creation tool. When I try to launch it I see this:

"There was a problem starting Setup. Close the tool, restart your pc, then try running the tool again."

Needless to say I've done this many times, including re-downloading the media creation tool.

I'm so frustrated I've cried, been angrier than the Hulk, prayed.... you know the usual installing a new operating system routine.

I looked at using Rufus, but you still need the.iso file download with guess what media creation tool.

I just don't know what to do next....
