Windows 10 Sets “tabbed windows” feature might be making a comeback

Windows 10 Sets, a new tabbed Windows experience that was first previewed in November 2017, might be coming back in next year’s major update.

Microsoft included Windows 10 Sets in the preview builds for two times but the feature was removed at a later stage prior to the release of the yearly update. Windows 10 Sets was pulled from the preview builds because of the complexities of apps compatibility.

“Based on your feedback, some of the things we’re focusing on include improvements to the visual design and continuing to better integrate Office and Microsoft Edge into Sets to enhance workflow,” Microsoft stated in a blog post published last year.

Microsoft has never promised Sets for a particular version of Windows 10 —or possibly even ever, but a report suggests that the feature might return back in an upcoming Insider build.

Mentions of Sets were discovered in Windows 10 Build 19481, which is an internal Windows 10 update.

With Sets, Microsoft hopes to put tabs in every window of the apps to boost productivity and multitasking experience. Sets will also add tabs to File Explorer and as well as Microsoft Office apps.

Sets has been touted as a way of managing workspace, allowing users to combine two activities, for example, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Edge — which could be useful if you have to complete the project or finish your assignment.

The popular frame-rate overlay, screengrab and recording utility FRAPS is set to make a comeback. The new version 3.6.0 comes with official Windows 10 support, with support for all of the utility's nifty features. FRAPS developer Beepa did not comment on when they plan to release version 3.6.0, only stating that they "hope to have it available as soon as possible," and that its development is in progress. Meanwhile we have a screenshot of a development build running on Windows 10 to chew on.

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
