Windows 10: Windows 10 Slow on Restart

Hi Guys, I have recently just upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 8 via the recommended way. However, I have noticed it take a bit longer to start up and restart than Windows 8, it's like I have gone back to Win Vista or 7.

Firstly is this just teething issues and does anyone else have this issue?

I personally would have performed a Clean Install of Windows 10 if there was a legal ISO for download but in saying that..... I bought my Laptop with Windows 8 pre-installed and wouldn't quite know how that would work performing a clean install anyway with out knowing my Windows 8 Product key as it is not visible on the Laptop. Not to mention that with it being a manufacturer OEM it probably wouldn't work using a legal ISO download. I didn't even get a Windows 8 installation DVD with my Laptop so had to make a Backup DVD.

So I'm thinking if no joy I shall just go back to my Windows 7. It would be a shame really because I really like the whole layout with Windows 10..... It's cleaner and crisper.

Windows 10 Very slow restart time. Black screen

Help! Help! I am so frustrated with my Windows 10 computer -- restart time is just pitiful. And disk usage = 100% for 10-20 minutes after restart and related slow performance is pitiful! :-(

"HP Pavilion e9250t Desktop computer -- A "Restart" is so slow and the disk activity is 100% for 10 - 20 minutes after it boots up -- making my computer super sluggish until the disk activity drops off. I have experienced the slow "Restart" with Windows
8.1 as well. I've spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to fix this issue in both Windows 8.1 and now Windows 10. It's so frustrating."

 

Windows 10 keeps on restarting after the update

No, it just runs slowly and I have to restart it. Windows 10 version 1703 is fine. I love it. It just slow sometimes, then I have to restart it.

 

Once you have upgraded to windows 10 and used it for some time I believe you can do a Clean install.

I've had Windows 10 for a few days now and decided to revert back to Windows 8.1. But me being a clean freak I would have preferred to perform a clean install on my OEM Laptop but don't have an installation DVD. After searching the eightforums I think I found what I'm looking for Here looks like I can perform a clean install with my OEM Windows 8 OS.

Will do it tomorrow when I get more time but fingers crossed this will work. I'll report back and let you know how it goes.

 

What was brand and model of laptop. Most of windows 8 laptops came with express cache SSD and software. For example ASUS S400CA, I have come with 500 GB HDD and 24GB SSD. When fast start enabled and shutdown done, the system is saved as cache in SSD. Because of this system starts fast.
After windows 10 installation, software for doing express cache is not installed by default and also not taken care by windows 10. If your laptop falls in this category, You need to install that software for express cache.

 

As far as I know, it's legal to download ISOs. Activating Windows using a stolen product key or patch is the illegal part.

 

Ok well that went smoothly, I managed to perform a clean install of my Windows 8.1 without any issues using the link I found on 'eightforums'


Seeing how that was so easy...... Just out of curiosity is it possible to perform a clean install of Windows 10 bypassing the 'upgrade' way, or does it have to be a 'upgrade' install?

 

You have to upgrade to Win 10 and from there you can do a clean install. During the clean install you'll be asked twice for a key, both of which you can skip as long as your clean install is from a activated upgrade of Win 10. Be sure to login to your Microsoft account in the upgrade, this is what will automatically activate the clean install when you login to it.

Installing Windows 10 using the media creation tool (this will work for both the upgrade & clean install)

 

I just did an upgrade from 7 to 10 and then did a clean install using the same ISO link from MS that you supplied above.

I used a local account and it activated fine (pressing skip 2x as you said) - the activation is linked to your hardware not your MS account I think. Anyway it worked for me and I'm still activated.

 

You should have looked around this forum before you first posted. The ISO for Windows 10 was released by Microsoft on July 29th and there are links and instructions all over this forum. I won't repeat them here in this thread since they have been duplicated in so many threads already, but just look around this forum and you will find exactly what you are looking for.

Yes and I do appreciate that but at the same time there is a lot of info to read through and similar posts just don't have the time to read through everything....... but apologies nonetheless ;-)

 

Well you still need to clean install from an activated upgraded of Win 10.
