Windows 10 SOUND DRIVERS SOLUTION (CONEXANT)

    Hello!

Recently i had the problem of having no sound at all after updating to windows 10. I figured that i wasn't the only one with this problem.

    Solution:
    1) Go to Computer Management > Device Manager.
Go to v Audio -input and -output
    Press the arrow key .
    2) you will now see 2 options, your internal Microphone (Conexant smartaudio HD)
and your internal speaker/headphone (Conexant smartaudio HD)
RIGHT CLICK BOTH OF THEM AND CLICK UNINSTALL (this should be option 3 when right click.)

    3) Scroll down trough the Device manager list until you see v Audio, video and games
    Again, press the arrow key.
    4) When you click the arrow key, you should be able to see 2 options, Conexant smartaudio HD AND NVIDIA High Definition Audio. Again, uninstall ONLY the Conexant smartaudio HD.

Now you basically have no sound drivers on your computer left meaning you need to google and find the Conexant driver that belongs to your computer. BUT the drivers which your need to download HAVE TO BE for a lower windows.

For example: i have a sony vaio with windows 10, i deleted my audio drivers and i reinstalled conexant drivers for windows 7.

This is where i found the conexant drivers for my sony vaio for windows 7.
Download Conexant Sound Card drivers - Softpedia

After you reinstalled drivers for a lower windows, it SHOULD ask you to reboot your pc to apply the changes.
After that reboot, your sound should be fixed.

I hope this kind of helped,
Feel free to reply to this post and help others

    :)

Here's an easier fix that worked for me:

    • Click the speaker icon in your task tray, go to playback devices.
    • Click on your playback device and go to properties.
    • Go across to the enhancements tab.
    • Click 'Disable all enhancements'.
    • Press 'Ok'

This fixed the no audio problem on a Dell Vostro with Conextant SmartAudio upgraded to Windows 10. This problem's first symptoms were a YouTube error message "there was a problem while playing :-" and Pandora stopped working.

Well Conexant drivers need attention. There is no single Conexant HD audio device. You have to see which model you have. Installing the wrong model can cause a BSOD. I know that from Conexant modems. When in Device Manager, right-click on the Conexant audio device and select properties. Then find the description and see which one is the vendor ID (VID), the product ID (PID) and then Google them to make sure you find the appropriate drivers.

I had the same problem, but discovered it when I Skyped after a Win 10 install and Skype update (v 17). I was assuming the Skype update caused the problem, but it may well have been the Win 10 install. When I disabled the drivers and re-booted, Win 10 stated, "The Conexant HD Audio enhancements are causing a problem with Windows 10." I selected to un-enable the enhancements. That cured the problem, including the Skype problem.

I have a Dell Inspiron 15R SE 7520. As far as I can tell, Dell has no "approved" Conextant Win 10 drivers for the Audio (newer). I certainly hope Conexant does something about the Win 10 driver issue.

    Conexant SmartAudio HD CX20672-21Z
    Conexant Audio CX20672-21Z
    4/5/2012
    v. 8.54.37.0

I remain quite concerned other things may happen, so would appreciate a better long term solution. I am assuming the driver is tied to the Dell installed hardware, so other driver options would not improve the situation?

Hope this info helps others. Other than this audio driver problem, the Win 10 install/upgrade has been surprisingly painless.

Google for Conexant CX20672-21Z driver and install the newest you can find. If running the setup doesn't work, use WinRAR to extract the files from the executable to a folder and then install the driver manually from Device Manager.

you guys are dealing with a Windows 10 problem - a pair of them.
since the beginning of tech preview there have been issues with some audio devices, including some [all?] Conexant, running in systems with more than 3GB [so, 32-bit bias] ram. The second issue is WHQL keeps approving known bad drivers, so Winupdates installs known unstable drivers. MS tech support for windows 10 has confirmed this but it is not hard to see the litter on the TechNet forums etc concerning the issues.
Third, there is no way to effectively block windows 10 update from clobbering whatever you do - see Brink's tutorial on the subject around the last page or two. nothing works to prevent whatever YOU do from being overridden at some point by reinstallation of a driver that will eventually fail audio.

if the enhancement switch does not produce stability, exchanging the device driver [dev mgr, update driver] to standard MS provided High Definition Device will work, and works well, until Winupdates overrides it again. then you'll need to hit rollback in dev mgr
    cheers

The Conexant sound did not install on my Toshiba after upgrading from Win 8.1 to 10. I downloaded the 8.1 driver for my specific laptop model from Toshiba and installed in an 8.1 compatibility mode.

The only issue I have, there is no Stereo Mix. I don't know if its the Toshiba supplied driver or if they have a special Conexant chip that has that disabled.

Once you find a working driver, simply use the show/hide tool to hide any unwanted driver updates and prevent them from installing. Of course you have to check after a few days to block any newer driver update. A bit of a hassle, but it does work.

Hello, I tried as you said but it did not worked for me. The problem happened after having tried to use my headphones. It happened not to have sound long time ago (I rarely use headphones) but I forgot how I fixed.
here is a screen of my device if someone can help. (I get "Unrecoverable playback error: Unknown error code (0x88890008)" in foobar2000).
(it is not CONEXANT but I did not wanted to open a new thread).
    Thank you

Just Google for IDT HD audio driver and you should find a working driver. The newer the better, but have in mind that Windows Vista, 7 or 8 driver will work in Windows 10 without any problem as long as it is the same architecture (32-bit or 64-bit).
