    While it's generally good to pray, you don't have to in this case. Just use the show/hide tool to search for available updates and hide the one referring to a driver. This will prevent Windows Update from installing it and screwing your hard work! Yes, Microsoft realized their forced auto updates is not always a good idea and they created a utility that allows you to choose and exclude any problematic update such as those related to drivers. Thanks God! *Party

    you sure that's working as advertised now?
    I want to believe it, and it seems to be working on my main daily driver Zenbook - haven't been reversed now in about two weeks so....
    here's hoping!

    Yes it works! *Biggrin

    I have an old computer with Realtek AC'97 onboard audio. Both latest official Vista and even latest official Windows XP (version 4.06) driver are known to cause BSOD. I found a very old Windows XP driver (version 3.52) and that worked (see this thread for Windows 10 32-bit and this post of the same thread for 64-bit). I had to use the show/hide tool to prevent Windows Update restoring the "new" driver and producing a BSOD!

    So far I have done over 5 updates and this problematic driver never was installed.

    Success! *Thumbs

    Third, there is no way to effectively block windows 10 update from clobbering whatever you do - see Brink's tutorial on the subject around the last page or two. nothing works to prevent whatever YOU do from being overridden at some point by reinstallation of a driver that will eventually fail audio.

    if the enhancement switch does not produce stability, exchanging the device driver [dev mgr, update driver] to standard MS provided High Definition Device will work, and works well, until Winupdates overrides it again. then you'll need to hit rollback in dev mgr
    cheers[/QUOTE]

    just wanted to say thankyou for your advice - nothing i do seems to work and if i get sound working - within a few days it disappears again and yes, since windows 10. But i didn't know that so it helps that you've explained what's happening.

    i think i will have to give in and try linux etc because i can't beleive how much time it takes now to try and stop windows from taking over absolutely everything. like a desease.grrr

    i hope i am correct in this: MS fixed the buggy way to stop device driver overwrites.
    Stop automatic driver updates on Windows 10 | Windows 10 content from SuperSite for Windows

    there is a second way also, that has to do with hide/unhide updates. you may have already tried that but on my system it never tries anymore to update the sound device.

    now if they would just fix the intel hd driver timeout bug.... sheesh. I thought that was only on AMD video/graphics but now i get it with straight intel HD5300

    Hello, i am new on this forum and i want to deliver in deep solution : In fact lot of drivers on Windows have problems with "registers"

    i have solved the connexant audio problem which appears on Windows 7, 8/8.1, 10 on the same registry :

    1) So go to "Notepad"

    2) copy/paste this :

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\CnxtHdAudService]
    "Type"=dword:00000001
    "Start"=dword:00000000
    "ErrorControl"=dword:00000001
    "ImagePath"=hex(2):5c,00,53,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,52,00,6f,00,6f,00,\
    74,00,5c,00,73,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,33,00,32,00,5c,00,64,00,72,\
    00,69,00,76,00,65,00,72,00,73,00,5c,00,43,00,48,00,44,00,52,00,54,00,36,00,\
    34,00,2e,00,73,00,79,00,73,00,00,00
    "DisplayName"="@oem20.inf,%UAAFunctionDriverForHdAudio.SvcDesc%;Conexant UAA Function Driver for High Definition Audio Service"
    "Owners"=hex(7):6f,00,65,00,6d,00,32,00,30,00,2e,00,69,00,6e,00,66,00,00,00,6f,\
    00,65,00,6d,00,31,00,2e,00,69,00,6e,00,66,00,00,00,6f,00,65,00,6d,00,36,00,\
    2e,00,69,00,6e,00,66,00,00,00,00,00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\CnxtHdAudService\StartOverride]
    "0"=dword:00000003

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\CnxtHdAudService\Enum]
    "0"="INTELAUDIO\\FUNC_01&VEN_14F1&DEV_50F4&SUBSYS_103C8120&REV_1001\\4&9a696c3&0&0001"
    "Count"=dword:00000001
    "NextInstance"=dword:00000001

    3) Save on XXX.reg

    4) open it with "admin rights"

    5) reboot/shutdown computer

    6) Sound Works again ... permanently

    PS: problem is : "Start"=dword:00000003 (stop connexant hd audio driver)
    "Start"=dword:00000000 (Put 0 in place of 3 : run driver)

    This solution worked for my HP G60-530CA laptop which recently upgrade from win7 to win10: "A problem with Conexant audio means that you may hear no sound in Windows 10 even though everything appears to be working correctly. While this is being investigated, Microsoft suggests running msconfig.exe and heading to the Boot tab. Click the Advanced options button, check the Maximum memory box and set the value to 3072."

    Windows 10 SOUND DRIVERS SOLUTION (CONEXANT)

    Eh? This will limit maximum RAM to 3GB no matter how much you have installed! Why do that? If you install drivers, everything seems OK but you hear no sound, then the installed driver is not 100% compatible with your hardware. Just try a different driver. I have seen this happening in old Realtek (AC'97) boards where the hardware can be VIA AC'97 (based on Realtek AC'97) and installing Realtek driver is accepted but you hear no sound unless you install the proper VIA AC97 driver. There are other similar cases, not only with VIA audio chipsets.

    I usually prefer to identify the hardware using Aida64 or other utility and then download the proper driver from manufacturer's site and install it. However, to save you the trouble you can use Snappy Driver or Driver Pack or other similar utility.

    This shouldn't be necessary, but since it works, fine.
