Windows 10: Windows 10 spell checker does not work on anything, need help

I guess i should have made my comments clearer. You are correct, it is marked as misspelled. What I was commenting on was that the option for "corrections" are to use three words: "beret", "beater", and "beer" as the most likely correct spellings. These are the only three offered no matter how often i correct it to "better".
Missing a "double"t" would seem to me to be the most likely error.

It is hard to understand the logic that would arrive at these three words yet not offer "better" as an option?

It's like "beret"is used more often than "better" in the English language? and the odds of my hitting 'beter' instead of 'beater', while possible, still seem to be tilted in the wrong direction. My point was that the algorithms that are used to offer you the most likely options are based on some very weird assumptions.

While many (if not most) are appropriate the ones that are "off" are usually so extremely off as to make me wonder if there is any 'AI' at work here at all. Or if 'spellcheck' just randomly picks any other closely spelled words to offer.

I understand it would be next to impossible for a 'one size fits all' solution but how hard would it be to keep track of the times I do NOT use one of their 'suggestions' and instead use something else? If it happens to be a word I misspell a lot, it seems spellcheck could at least add the word I picked to the "options" offered for next time.

 

this thread seems to have drifted from the original topic. I've been struggling with two of the windows 10 computers at work which have suddenly developed this issue that although both auto correct and hi-light misspelled features are turned on, the functionality is not active (and if you right-click, the context menu does not offer any dictionary options). both computers had been working fine. after much research, I did determine that the issue is tied to the profile. I can login to another account on the computer and spell check features work as expected. it just seems that with the problem profile that the options are ignored. I've also checked registry and tried downloading language packs, switching back and forth from English (Canada)-English (US) to see if that would correct the issue.hope this bit of info helps others out and also get us further in being able to fix the profile rather than having to setup a new account.

My Word 2010 on Win10 Pro auto-corrects the i to I. I typed autocorrect here and it offered 3 different choices on the right-click menu, it will not notify or correct i to I.

I was mucking around in chromium settings due to my spellcheck option being completely greyed out. After some digigng the consensus was it has to be enabled in the OS to function so I checked the OS and the options were enabled.

This being said, im not getting spellchecking/correcting anywhere whatsoever.

im at a loss. tied to group policy? a service? a windows app potentially removed or disabled?

 

Not sure if my input is even relative to your problem. My original issue was (and still is) with Spellcheck in MS Office. When using spellcheck in a browser, i have found that the only real assistance I could get came from the addition of one or more "extensions" added to Chrome. I have heard that EDGE now offers its own extension add-ins but have not verified this.

When using any of the Office Applications, you can find the custom spelling dictionaries in the (normally hidden) AppData folder under each user's name. Further, to find their custom.dic files you have to go to Roaming\Microsoft\Uproof for one of them. Microsoft\Spelling\en_us for another. These files can be edited easily with Notepad. But I have never seen any of the entries have any effect while using a browser.

lol using creators. Just disabled it. not worth the time invested trying to sort it i guess. otherwise it'll eat at me forever. I consider it saved cpu cycles ;p

 

Windows 10 built-in spell checker only works in modern apps (Edge, Mail maybe others, don't know). It won't work in desktops applications.
