Windows 10: Windows 10 start up, performance and system failure

Hi All,

Hope you can help. Have followed a number of possibilities within these forums hoping to solve my problem. The most accurate yet goes back to December 5, 2017 and the information given by DaveM121.

I am having the same problem as Amyoberlies - unfortunately when I am in safe mode, I am not being given option to back up data, only to go back and restore from Windows 7.

I have tried the many ways given to rectify, even reset, and then tells me there was an error and can't complete reset function.


I can after signing in, eventually after a very long wait get to the home screen which is black background, and shows all files on desktop. When I click on the start button, nothing happens at all. When I click on the folder icon to go into explorer, eventually it tells me that path/location doesn't exist. I also can't get on the internet, which if I could, I could then hopefully do a restore from Google sync. And to add to the huge list of complications, if I can get windows to see my external hard drive, I should be able to restore from there too. Add to that, I can't find the recovery/rescue/boot disk to re-install.

I realise this is possibly a complete "fubar" and the answer is to go buy a new laptop, but any help if only to retrieve all the data on there will be greatly appreciated,

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Performance and System Failures

Provide us the below information to assist you better.

• Have you installed all the pending updates on your system?
• Do you have any high end software program installed on your computer?
• Do you have any antivirus program installed on your computer?

As an initial step I would suggest you to install all the pending updates on your system and also uninstall any program which is not used any more on your computer.

Method 1: Disable security software on the system.

Disable Antivirus and security-related products, if you have any Antivirus installed for (Free) uninstall it, if not then disable the Antivirus, try again to update and check if issue is resolved.

Disclaimer: Antivirus software helps protecting your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you
have to temporarily disable it to install other software and\or troubleshoot any pertinent issue, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you are connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is
vulnerable to malware attacks

Method 2: Run System Maintenance troubleshooter

Please follow the steps to run System Maintenance troubleshooter on the computer:

• Type “Control Panel” on the search box.
• Click on Troubleshooting.
• Click on View all option on the left side of the Windows.
• Click on System Maintenance option.
• Click on Next and follow the onscreen instructions to troubleshoot the issue. Check if it has improved the performance.

System restore failure windows 10

Hi,

As you are facing issues with the “failure of the computer to shut down” I suggest you perform the below methods and check if it helps.

I suggest you to try running the Power Troubleshooter to check if it helps to resolve the issue.

Run the Power troubleshooter on the system.

Refer these steps:

• Press Windows key + X, select Control panel.
• Change the view by option on the top right to Large icons
• Click on troubleshooting and click on the view all option on the left panel
• Run the Power troubleshooter
