Windows 10: Windows 10 stuck at lock screen for a long time

The whole thing started to appear around 3 days ago. The problem is that everytime I boot, windows 10 stays on a weird lock screen without any buttons for a long long time. There are just 4 icons in the bottom right corner (shut down, accesibility, ethernet...) It sometimes manages to get to desktop, and sometimes not. Not sure what caused it, could be a recent windows update, not sure tho. I ran some HDD scans and everything turned out fine, also did a registry cleanup, tried disabling lock screen, and nothing seems to work. Any suggestions or solutions?

Hi, my computer is Dell XPS13 9360. My windows updates stuck at 81% while instatlling so I have to press power button for 10 seconds to reboot it, finnally my computer rollback to the previous verison. I have windows 10 version 1703.

Could you please review your update history and see if any updates for Windows or Drivers were installed in last week?

You mentioned when you boot. Not sure if this is happening on restart or power on or both. If it is power on booting can I suggest a quick test. Open a command prompt (admin) and type

powercfg -h off

This will disable hibernation and in turn Fast Startup. Test. If no change you can re-enable by typing

powercfg -h on

After you boot have you reviewed your Event Viewer to see if Windows is kicking out any serious errors to the system log?

Checked the update history, there weren't any updates since 14th of December. It happens on both, restart and power on. Event Viewer showed no critical errors of any sort and the powercfg command didn't do anything, sadly *Sad

 

Your update process sounds broken unless you are controlling them some how. Are you controlling how / when updates are delivered.

There have been updates since December.

If you are not controlling........

Make a restore point and I would have bootable media on hand. (Easy to make and handy to have.) You should not need it. I like safe rather than sorry.

This is a standard window process.

Windows key + S, search bar appears, type troubleshooting into search bar, troubleshooting appears at top. Click it, window opens, lower right side "Fix problems with Windows Update", click. Window opens, click on “advance”, click on Run as administrator, click “Next”. Should run clean. If not run again. (as administrator).

I agree, I never bother with updates I guess, so will definetly do that right away. Oh and by the way, in case this could be in any help: the lock screen lightly flashes every minute or so, like it's gonna unlock, but doesn't actually do anything.
