I did not write the story, I posted that Windows 10 is Not a subscription service. What I said in the OP about renting an OS was an off the cuff sarcastic remark. You people need to lighten up and enjoy the moment as the clock is ticking on all of us. I will not use Office 365 so I do not care if they charge $50.00/month for it. There is a video of a MS employee stating that Windows 10 will be a FREE upgrade for Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 users. He said nothing about subscriptions. All I know is that there is no free lunch especially in Redmond. I use Office 2010 and will continue to use it in Windows 10. I have said all that I am going to say about this so please move on/

You seem to still want to believe that MS will eventually have a subscription for Windows.. "No free lunch".. No one is forcing you to use anything beyond Office 2010 so the subscription issue with Office 365 is not an issue for you.

And don't forget you started the thread and sarcastically or not got the topic going.

 

It's fine but when it's baseless it's of no use. But some always want to think the worst of MS for some reason.

Maybe MS should change there logo to a banana or somethin. The Apple thing seemed to work out for Macintosh. People will buy whatever they put up for sale, even if does cost a couple thousand bucks... *sarc

And yes.. MS should just charge for Windows 10.. some people just don't get what free means or just don't want to believe it.

 

No, I think MS is making the right choice making Windows 10 free. It's not like Windows is they're only way of income.

And they do have to compete with Linux and Mac, which is free... with the purchase of a $3,000 computer. *Wink

 

I also wish articles would quit assuming people are going to upgrade to windows 10 because it is free. There is more to consider then it being free.

If that other article (no link) is correct. I think windows 7 & 8.1 will get windows 10 with 5 years of extended support for free, after 5 year who knows. I am also not buying a new desktop/laptop that bricks or doesn't work after 10 year supported period. 5 year mainstream and 5 years extended support. I would buy a Ubuntu directly from dell if they had some models, provided I could afford it.

 

I would buy a cheap Ubuntu laptop too - and put Mint on it, LOL

But as long as I can buy Windows 8.1 laptops for $99, that will not happen.
