Windows 10: Windows 10 switch user not working

This all started when I attempted to create a second account on a win10 computer.

The account I attempted to create was an online account.

Initially, the account seemed to create successfully.

I restarted the system and attempted to log into the account.

This is an older system and I was faster than it was in connecting to the network.

It generated an error, something about profile not being able to be created.

I logged in as an admin and attempted to diagnose the problem but was unable to find anything in the event viewer.

I decided to restart and repeat the process.

Upon restarting the second account was no longer available.

I logged in as admin deleted the profile and attempted to create a new one.

Restarted and still no user list on logon screen.

Since then I have done the following:


Created a local only account both admin and std user

Created a family invite account

edited the group policy to force switch-user enabled

ran an sfc and dism check/repair

ran some sort of deflate command on one of the dbs cant find the link anymore, thought I had bookmarked it


all to no avail.


One interesting occurrence is when the system is booting the logon screen will display as normal and then "cycle" like it is being "repainted". Almost like it is trying to load the user list but is failing and rolling back to the one good account it knows.


It seems like when I tried to login for the first time with the online account and the network had not connected yet it corrupted something. Sadly whatever happened was not captured in the event logs.


any additional suggestions as how to repair this would be appreciated.

Cant switch users in Windows 10

• 
  Did you make any changes to the computer prior to this issue?
  

I suggest you to follow the below steps to Switch users.

• 
  Press Ctrl + Alt + Del key altogether.
  
• 
  Click on Switch User.
  
• 
  Select the user with which you want to login.
  

If computer starts up with a user other than the one you want, login to that user account and switch user to the account that you need and check.

Can't sign out or switch users in windows 10

Hi,

If you are willing to switch between user try the steps provided below and see if it helps.

• Press Alt+F4.
• This will open shut down window.
• Click the down arrow key and select Switch user from the list.
• Hit OK and it will show you other user account present on the PC.

Windows 10 Tweaks

As you may already know, Windows 10 (as well as Windows 8) allow you to log in with a valid Microsoft account, instead of creating a local account that only works on your machine. However, you may prefer to keep a local account for privacy reasons. If you do, though, some Windows 10 features—like Cortana—may not work. Despite the default behavior, the Windows 10 Store is not one of them. You can still log in to your Microsoft account for just the Store without switching to a full Microsoft account. The process, however, is not terribly obvious. To do so, follow these steps:

• Launch the Store from your Start menu.
• Click the user icon next to the search box.
• Click “Sign-in” from the menu that appears.
• Choose “Microsoft account” and log in like normal.
• When the “Make it yours” box appears do not enter your password. Instead, click “Sign in to just this app instead.”
