Windows 10: Windows 10 System Sounds Not Playing

Hey, everybody.

I've been using this computer for well over a year and all of the sudden this week for no reason it stopped playing system sounds. Like, they literally don't play.

A common problem is that it's set to zero in the volume mixer. Well, I set the system sounds volume to full blast and they still aren't playing. I have tried updating my drivers but that didn't help one bit. I tried reinstalling my drivers but I've found no possible option to reinstall them, just an option to uninstall them. The problem is, I don't know where to download my drivers, again.

All the other sounds work, like in my browser and my games. Just the system sounds like the ones you hear in explorer don't work. I have no restore points and sfc /scannow does not work at all.

I looked all over the internet for a solution and I haven't found any solutions for this, so if you have a solution, please leave a reply other than telling me to reformat my computer or telling me to buy a new computer.

No sound while playing audio and video files.

Hi,

I appreciate if you could answer to a few questions to narrow down to the issue.

• Which is the application that you are using to play the files?
• Did you try the same on a different player?
• Did you perform any troubleshooting steps?

As an initial troubleshooting step, I suggest you to check if the volume is set low or in mute state in Volume Mixer.

• Right click on sound icon.
• Open Volume Mixer check for the application that you are playing the files with and increase the volume and check.

If the issue still persists, I would suggest you to run “Playing audio” troubleshooter to diagnose and fix the issue.

Follow these Steps to run Playing Audio Troubleshooter in Windows 10.

1. Type troubleshooting in the search bar.

2. Select Troubleshooting.

3. Select View all on the top left corner.

4. Click on Playing audio.

Windows 10 Tweaks

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

No sound playing after windows 10 upgrade

If issue persist, I would suggest you to follow Method 2.

Method 2:

I suggest you to reinstall the Windows 7 audio drivers in
compatibility mode and check if it works.

This is to check if this is caused due to any driver compatibility issues.
