I understand the compexity to show actual percentage hence my wish for the moving dots to show the system has not hung up and still is alive.
windows 7 update running in the background is also and offender, the system often appears frozen for no obvious reason displayed. You have to open windows update to spot it is running or a update of defender has fired up and running.

  4. Windows 10: The installation interface has been updated

When I used to write little programs to do stuff that would take some time, I always printed to the screen some little message like "Don't touch me! I'm busy!" or "Working!" so the user wouldn't get antsy about what was going on.

It doesn't take a lot of programming to let the user know that the program is still running, and to NOT start pressing keys.

Why that doesn't occur to so many programmers, is beyond comprehension.

Wayne that's one of the nice things about Linux is, when something get's installed you can watch it...with a few Proprietary software like Flash player. And One can also turn it off also and just watch a loading bar.(all about choice). I really would like that choice with Windows to open a PowerShell window(better choice) or CMD prompt.

  6. If it gets rid of the 2% done....5% done...10% done, big looooong pause and then bam 100% done, I'm all for it.

I watched some, when the progress bar stop, the installation stop. You could still see the bar moving some times the bar is very slow. Some have progress bars along with percentage left or how much is completed.

    All,

Linux by the way may show percentages , if you install a large package using the command line, it can look stuck at 42% when it is not. I also use Linux.

I saw something similar on W10 when I first opened some apps: 'Working on it' I think. I found it really irritating as it was only there for a second or so and then the app opened. I thought it was unnecessary in those circumstances.

Just goes to show that whatever MS try to do, they'll never please all of us *Smile.

  10. I have a question. When the newer TP is being installed, is the older TP written over, deleted, or saved like my old 8.1?
    Thanks!

To revive an "old thread"-- today when I updated Kodi, I noticed the installation interface, and remembered this thread. This is what I meant on an earlier post that I would like to see when doing a clean install of Windows(on all software for that matter).

That would be function of the installation program. Many use "off the shelf" installation/uninstallation programs to install their software. I would like best if windows would have full verbose installation.
