Windows 10: Windows 10: The installation interface has been updated

I think Cliff S is saying that's the type of screen he wants to see when installing Windows 10. I would prefer a screen like that also. The spinning dots don't tell you anything.

 

The old way and way Linux does it is totally verbose, line by line as it's being installed with dots behind the line that show progress of that file.

 

When I install a program or even the OS I like to know what's going on. IMO if a problem arises it just may help to fix it if you know where in the install the problem happened.

 

Arch has a little icon of the 1980's pacman video game character that plods along the dots eating them up. Actually it is just the capital and minuscule letter "C" but that is still pretty cool.

 

I love it.

The "old way" of doing things goes against the modern design trend of hiding as much as possible from the user (information, controls, system status, options, etc.). *Sad

I also suspect that "modern" programmers have zero training in UI design.

 

It appears it didn't, not for me anyway. I did the upgrade from 10041 to 10049. It took about 30 minutes to do the download, then another 3 hours to get to 30 %. Then about 30 minutes latter it jumped to 100 %. *Eek

 

I find that when MS changes something, like the install/setup procedure, it takes some Divine Inspiration to know what to click on next to get to where I want to be. It's not real well documented in the setup.

I did just "Go Forth" and found I could install Windows 10 10041 or even 10049, without a MS account or Password.
That's a good thing!
