    A quick Registry modification:

    Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Themes\Personalize
in the right pane, click an empty space, choose New>DWORD (32-bit) Value
    name it AppsUseLightTheme
give it a Value of 0

    Close Registry Editor.
    Change takes place immediately.

I just want them to fix the Outlook hyperlink to IE11 as the default browser problem. Then I would convert my other two PCs to Windows 10 and be done with it.

I really hate having to use Firefox as my default browser just to bypass this problem.

Just because you have to do an extra click to open the link? It's slightly annoying yes, but not major enough to make me use another browser.

can you explain the problem ,I'm missing something ,do you want it to open in IE or to firefox,,
I use ie 11 and my email links open in ie 11, if I use Edge the links open in edge

I do not get that extra click. I just sit there at the OL screen. When I go to IE11, I am looking at the home page. I use OL2003 but I have read that others get the same problem.

I would gladly suffer through the extra click. But I don't think my wife would. Here we have two Microsoft products and they cannot fix a simple problem.

    Not a happy camper.

I make IE11 the default browser. I can click on links in Word and W10 mail and other apps and the links open fine in IE11 and take me to them. If I click on a link in OL2003, it just sits there and, when I go to IE11, I am sitting at the home page. Those with OL2010 and above, but not OL2016, get a message and they can click on it and get the link to open. That is the problem.

If I make Firefox or EDGE the default, all is fine with the OL2003 links. But I prefer IE11 as Firefox has other problems for me and EDGE is a mess.

You can go to: Can not declare IE 11 as default program - Windows 10 Forums and read all about it. Page after page.

ok, now I under stand ,, I thought you meant outlook.com , I forgot about the MS office outlook mail app .been so long since I used it,
giving that MS is trying to push Edge on users I don't think they care about fixing your issue

Or force us to upgrade to the current Office product which I believe has an annual license fee.

I like to hang onto my programs as long as possible too, but you have to admit that Outlook 2003 is 12 years old. I'm surprised you're not having more issues than just IE 11 not opening a link from it.

That said, I'm not having any problems with IE opening links in Outlook 2016. And you said it! Edge is a mess and I'm not overly fond of Firefox, but it's a bit better than IE.

What I'd like to see is that those who use Outlook and have Office 2010, 2013 and the Technical/Public Preview of Office 2016 make IE your default browser. Close down Windows 10 and then reboot.

Let Outlook (not Outlook.com) gather your mail and click on any links. Could you then post your results? If/when this issue proves out, I want to take it to a higher level to see if the "Team" is working on it.

The only reason I am running OL2003 on this PC is that I am using my 2010 licenses on my other two PCs. And it was working fine until I tried to make IE11 my default browser. Since it is also affecting OL2010 users, I cannot convert my other PCs. I have tried using the Mail app on this PC but I still want to run OL2010 on the other PCs. I like MS Office and don't mind paying for the licenses I now have.

What I'd like to see is that those who use Outlook and have Office 2010, 2013 and the Technical/Public Preview of Office 2016 make IE your default browser. Close down Windows 10 and then reboot.

They have and they have the same problem.Go to Can not declare IE 11 as default program - Windows 10 Forums and read all about it. I wish you would see if the "Tram" i working on it. We have all put in Feedback about the problem.

I'm using Outlook 2007 and IE 11 is my default browser. When I click a link in an email, a window pops up asking which program to open it with. This is what it looks like.

If I choose to use IE all the time, it will still open the same window every time I click a link and I will have do a second click on OK. If I choose Edge and tell it to use it every time, Edge becomes my default for everything and the same happens if I choose Chrome. Then clicking email links will open in that browser immediately, without showing that choice window. Outlook 2007 will not recognize IE as being the default even when you tell it to.
