  1. Windows 10 unable to connect to wifi

    Hi,

I purchased a new computer running Windows 10 (build 10240) today and have set up the windows. However, it will not allow me to connect to my wifi. When I use the network option in the task bar, no wifi networks are shown and it says that there are no connections available. When I access the network settings, where the different sections are listed on the left-hand side, wifi is not an available option.

I have been trying for a good few hours and have tried many different solutions to fix this. These include:
    • Updating drivers
    • Deleting drivers and then allowing the computer to reinstall
    • A few different command prompt methods such as resetting the TCP stack, as well as trying some that were for people who upgraded from windows 7/8

I have no idea how to fix this or any clue as to why its happening in the first place. Please help!

    Thanks,

P.S. Here are my computer specs if this helps: Zoostorm Gaming Media Desktop PC

  2. Unable to connect to connect to wifi. When

    Hi Mark,

I'm not connected to the ethernet, and actually have never been using this laptop. Should I still update the chipset and wireless driver? And if so which ones?

    Thank you

Windows 10 unable to connect to wifi

Hi Nozzergirl, welcome to the Ten Forums.

The desktop PC you have bought has no WiFi adapter so it cannot connect to wireless networks if you have not added a WiFi adapter by yourself.

Please confirm that you have separately bought / got a WiFi network adapter and that this adapter has been correctly installed with its drivers.

  5. Oh, I thought it did have them so I have not added one myself. How would I go about adding one? Is it something that just plugs into the computer externally?

The specifications of your PC clearly show it has only a wired (Ethernet, LAN) adapter included, no WLAN (wireless, WiFi) adapter. Usually all laptops come with a built-in WiFi adapter but on desktops you need to add it separately as it is usually not included.

You have several options; you can buy a USB WiFi adapter which when connected to a free USB port gives you the wireless connection, or you can select a so called WiFi adapter card which needs to be attached to a free slot on your motherboard.

Here a few alternatives for you to consider: Amazon.com: WiFi adapter for desktop. My choice would be this: Amazon.com: Panda 300Mbps Wireless N USB Adapter

  7. Thank you for your help. I ordered a USB wifi adapter after my last post which came the same day and this works perfectly. Can't believe I never noticed when ordering the computer but nevermind - it all works well now. Thank you *Smile
