Windows 10: Windows 10 update error 0x80070424

Hi all.


I launched a video game and noticed the low FPS. I first checked for any processes running and draining my cpu/gpu power. When running Malwarebytes it became clear, there was a trojan bitcoin miner on my computer. So I quarantined and deleted the files (screenshot of found threats: https://imgur.com/0APMsk3). As you can see in the screenshot, the trojan came with a registry which disabled my antivirus, firewall and updates and probably replaced these with the originals (though I'm not sure about the replacing).


Upon seeing that list of threats in Malwarebytes, I quickly tried updating Windows but without luck. It gave me the error 0x80070424. I searched for solutions online and tried reactivating Windows Update and Firewall through services.msc but these couldn't be found or started. I found a set of commands to run in a .bat file on answers.microsoft but it says 'Acces is denied.' and 'System error 5 has occured'. I tried running Malwarebytes again but couldn't detect anything, I tried CCleaner to fix the registry. I tried adding the registry values back manually (via the guide) but didn't help. I tried download and running a Windows 10 upgrade file (Windows10Upgrade9252.exe) for offline updating but when clicking 'Next' in the installer, it skips the installment in a flash and goes right to the end of the installer where it says 'Thank you for updating to the latest version of Windows 10'. Also tried the media creation tool (MediaCreationTool1803.exe) to repair windows from there, but it says this version or language of windows is not supported.


Edit: when restarting my pc after trying all this, two blank 'files' were suddenly on my desktop: https://imgur.com/jQJwZjD When right clicking on them I only get the options 'Cut' 'Create shortcut' and 'Delete'
