  1. Windows 10 update problem

    Hello,

I have a big problem with Windows update.

I have a Dell laptop, since 2018, which came with Windows 10 installed.
For almost two years, I have installed all the updates for Windows each month and everything worked fine.
Unfortunately, this month, after installing the last update for Windows 10 May update the computer stopped responding.

I tried to reboot and to repair the system using the Dell software and it didn't worked.
Then, I tried to repair the system using the installation kit Windows 10 and choosing the first option - Automatic repair, but it didn't worked.
Finally, I tried to repair the system using the installation kit Windows 10 using the last option - Restore point and, fortunately, it worked.

Considering this issue, I thought there is something wrong with the last Windows update and I paused the updates for the maximum allowed time - until 27-May-2020, but this day is approaching and I want to block Windows updates forever.
I know very well that, apparently, it is impossible to do this, but I think there should be a way because the alternative, at least for me, is to : save all the data, launch the update and then to use the installation kit to go back to the last restore point that was OK. More, I will have to do this each month and I think this would be a very weird solution.

In order to resolve my issue I have discussed with three Microsoft support consultants and they offered me three different solutions.

The first solution was to install the latest updates using the latest Windows kit downloaded from the Microsoft website.
I did this, but it didn't worked. After launching, the application was blocked at ~30% "checking for updates".
The second solution was to pause the updates.
I did this, but the problem is that on 27-May-2020 Windows will automatically start to download and install updates and my system will stop responding.
The third solution was to block automatic updates using the Group Policy.
I tried to do this and it didn't worked. Windows Update still says that updates will resume on 27-May-2020 and my system will stop responding.

In this context, I have to ask why Microsoft made updates mandatory if some of the updates have errors ?!
I know that, in theory, that updates are mandatory for security reasons, but, in my case, I have to choose between update failure certainly ! and possible hacker attacks possibility ~. You can imagine that I would choose NO updates.

Considering all of these, I need your help to find another solution that will work.

    Thank you in advance.

    :)

Windows 10 upgrade problem, no input accepted

I really hate having to come here and ask for help, but I really am stumped. It hurts my geek pride. I have a PC with fairly modern hardware in it. It has a p8p67 pro in it. I have tried upgrading windows 10 on it twice now. Both times I have had the same result.

After windows finishes upgrading it goes to the log in/set up screen. I can't do anything. No keyboard or mouse input is accepted.

I will list some, or hopefully all, of the troubleshooting steps I have tried:
    • Move keyboard and mouse to different USB ports.
    • Try different keyboard or mouse.
    • Restart computer, repeatedly.
    • Google for related issues.
    • Update Bios, because why not.
    • Create boot media and revert to windows 7.
The windows 10 system restore boot media works fine with keyboard and mouse. All USB ports work in windows 7. I don't know what is wrong. I suspect that windows 10 is lacking a driver of some sort, but since the computer accepts no input I have no way of checking for which driver let alone installing it.

Please help me figure this out. If I have to revert back to windows 7 again, I am not going to get it upgraded to windows 10. Thank you in advanced.

  3. New install Windows 10 (issue solved)

It's good that you're not experiencing any issues. Unfortunately many folks are, a quick Google search will show the same info im offering the OP.

    Heres a couple examples:

    Here

    Here

It's basically what I mentioned above, small issues here and there ,but nothing to end your day.. for the most part.

I know it's anecdotal, but for my experience 95% of the time it's perfectly fine. The issues I've run into wouldn't be enough for me to roll back , but they would be enough (had I not installed it yet) ,to avoid it for another couple weeks which is why I'm suggesting it to the OP

    Windows 10 update problem

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
