Windows 10: Windows 10 update to v 1809 crashing

Hi. I can not believe that I have another Windows Features Update that has crashed my computer. I had untold problems last year over upgrading to v 1803 and in the end I had to have a clean install of Windows (and consequently loads of trouble reinstalling everything). All has been fine but now they have a new update and it is happening all over again.

There were many of us on several forums asking for help - what on earth I am supposed to do if this happens every year at least once? My computer is not old and is kept up to date and all my programmes work well so why can't they leave things alone or make sure the big updates can be installed? I do not understand why it happens and I can't fix it so I guess it is time to waste money by ditching this lovely PC and buying another - maybe a Mac this time. I can't even refuse the updates as there is no option to do that - please can someone save my sanity and tell me what is going on with Microsoft?

Increase the window size step by step and watch your vga temps permanently.
What happens?
If it crashes, run at stock speeds as suggested before and retry.

P.S.: When your system locks, does the display signal turn off after a time?
Stuttering sound or no sound at all when freezing?
What X1800XT model do you own exactly?

 

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Not sure about the games you listed but no probs with Dirt Rally and benching heavensward-bench here for me. I'm going to test 3DMark too in a few minutes.
