Windows 10: Windows 10 update to version 1809 and 1903 failures

I have a dell XPS8100 PC currently running version 1803 of Windows 10. It keeps alternately trying to update to version 1809 and when that fails it tries version 1903, which also fails see log below:-

I'm running Norton security software and the disc is encrypted using Veracrypt software version 1.22


Each time the update process successfully goes through the download & installation stages, but fails with the error code 0xc1900101 when I start the Restart sequence. It restarts up to the point where it asks me to choose a keyboard. It then does another restart, which takes at least an hour before failing and reverting back to version 1803.


My Dell PC is not in the list of models tested by Dell, so can this ever work? If not am I stuck on version 1803? Also can I stop it making futile attempts to upgrade until I get an answer to this problem?

Versions 1809 and 1903 failure to update the system reserved partition.

I've experienced repeated failures to update from Windows 10 version 1803 to version 1903. I receive an error message: "We couldn't update the system reserved partition." The update history shows error # 0x80240034 for failed attempts to update to version
1809 on ‎3/‎12/‎2019 and repeated failures to update to version 1903 in May and July, 2019.

Isn't the "reserved partition" totally under Windows 10 control? If it's full doesn't Windows fix it? I've had two lengthy chat assistance sessions (#1477323951) that ran MediaCreationTool1903 that seemed to reinstall Windows 10 but failed to complete the
update. Both "Ariel B" and "Joey " bailed on me, Ariel after insisting I rate her service before the fix, which failed, completed. Joey just closed the assist window and disappeared with no explanation. Testy robots or tired techies?!

Hmm, this is Windows 10 1809 which is the most recent release which is now being succeeded by Windows 10 1903.

I would carry out the steps from my initial reply to reset your Windows Update components.

Your configuration might not be listed yet, since it is just rolling out.

Ultimately, I would wait until the ISO file is available then upgrade offline using these steps:

You are missing an EFI partition too. Here's mine (1903) - note the 99Mb EFI partition:



- noting the Recovery partition is NTFS - not sure where the idea in that thread about FAT32 comes from.

Here are all the partitions - Disk Management omits the 16Mb one:




In the thread I quoted- not the most straightforward- it seems one basic step taken was to
a. Image 'C: '
b. Clean install Windows
c. Replace the new Windows partition by restoring it from the image created
d. (Note when rebooting, this may sort itself out via automated repair, or need Startup repair to be run)
