Windows 10: Windows 10 Update: WiFi does not connect . Networks do not show up

I recently updated to windows 10 . After i did , my laptop could not connect to wifi. I thought there was something wrong with my wifi router, however I then realized that the wifi works perfectly fine in my phone and other devices . It just does not connect to my laptop . The available networks do not show up. Please help. I have a bunch of assignments to do for college and this laptop is all I have .

Wifi Networks not showing


On my Laptop if I wanted to change the wifi connection I would always see a list of the available networks when I selected the Wifi icon on the task bar.
Since the last major update to Windows 10 I find that when I select the wifi icon I only see the current connection





To see other networks within range I have to open the 'Network settings' and choose 'Show available networks' - then they show up.





Does anyone have any explanation for this - or possibly a 'fix' to show them all from the taskbar again.

 

"Can't connect to this network."


I just bought a wifi card for my windows 10 desktop (a tp-link archer t8e) and cannot connect to my network.

I have the wifi icon on the tray, I can get a list of available networks but after entering the wpa key for my network it just shows the message "Can't connect to this network."

Network diagnosis just suggested connecting to a wifi network (why didn't I think of that...), does anyone here have any clue as to what the problem could be?

UPDATE: Just noticed that the wifi adapter is being disabled briefly just after I enter the network password, no idea what's going on.
