Windows 10: Windows 10 Update

You know, I was planning on setting up my PC, for the first time again in 2 years to play some online games over the 2 public holidays.


So yesterday, I noticed my router is going full speed, so I assumed it's all my PC's app updating. Nope turns out, it's Windows updates, and it's collecting all the last 2 years worth of OS updates.


You'd think one would be able to suspend it, no.

Tried to cancel, there is no cancel option.

Tried to disable updates - there is no disable updates.

And I don't have the fastest of lines either (4Mbit)


So I tried to block all these public update IP's in the firewall - nope.

Tried to kill the Update services - nope.

Tried to use GPO to disable updates - nope.


I removed all the update blocks I've done manually.


Okay, so I let it update - for 3 hours, and it fails and then it wanted to start over again. I gave up - no games for me. So I went to sleep - and let it retry again.


This morning it failed - I'm not even surprised.

So I downloaded the Update assistant (why you at Microsoft can't figure updates out like Apple, god only knows)

I then manually downloaded and installed all the updates, another 3 hours of my holiday time - gone.


I'd just like to applaud you, for achieving the worst product/support in the OS category of 2018. And to top it off, you made it just in time before the end of the year.

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Well just noticed a pretty large one pop up coming in at 914MB, seems it makes some pretty serous updates.
