Windows 10: windows 10 update

I am in Windows 10 update hell. For the second time this year (2019) and the fifth time since October I've gotten the dreaded message to update when I log off. Every time this happens I lose 3 printer drivers, my connection to my router, and, on my work laptop, I have to re-register and re-download my firms security software, a roughly 1/2 hour process. And then I get to do the same stuff on my son's laptop as well, with the exception of the part about connecting to my employers system. My son is a quad and uses his laptop for communications amongst other things. All told, every update is about three hours of hassle. Is there ANY way to turn off the automatic updates? Is there ANY way to set it up so the system updates on my schedule rather than MSFT's? The worst thing in all of this is that, near as I can tell, my laptop (and my son's) work exactly the same after. The update today froze both of our laptops at the update complete, please do not turn off …. message, for six hours … before I turned them both off. Starting at 3:30pm and turned them both off right at 9:30 … so six hours of paperweights. And presumably since the blasted things never restarted, it will redownload again in a day or two and once again screw things up. HELP!

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Well just noticed a pretty large one pop up coming in at 914MB, seems it makes some pretty serous updates.
