Windows 10: Windows 10 updater to 1903/1909 failing with 0x8007042b

Hi.

I am getting errors attempting to perform a major update with windows 10 updater.
The updater is automatically attempting to install 1903.


PC is HP Stream
Intel Celeron CPU N3060 @ 1.60Ghz
4Gb RAM
64-bit
Windows 10 1709
OS Build 16299.1087



Errors are:
Feature update to Windows 10, version 1903
Failed to install on 26/05/2020 - 0x8007042b


I ran the Windows Updater Troubleshooter, and hit the error Potential Windows Update Database Error Detected. I cannot fix this.


I have tried the following:
sfc /scannow - this cleared some early errors. Run a number of times now. All clear.

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Checkhealth - All clear.
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth - All clear.
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth - All clear.
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /StartComponentCleanup - This was great for clearing space


net stop wuauserv
net stop cryptSvc
net stop bits
net stop msiserver

Ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old - Once deleted, this was great for clearing space
Ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old

net start wuauserv
net start cryptSvc
net start bits
net start msiserver



I have hit space errors previously, but performed a large cleanup and have 14Gb free.


Other steps to clear space:
compact.exe /compactOS:always Will undo with compact.exe /compactOS:never
powercfg -h off Will undo with "powercfg -h on" to turn hibernation back on - This was great for clearing space
Reduced pagespace - temporarily - I will increase this later.
Disk-Cleanup, including System Files and prior restore points.



Antivirus is windows defender only.



I attempted to install 1909 directly from microsoft. I don't have the error code to hand. But results were similar.
I may try updating with media creation tool in case that performs differently.


Would anyone have any better recommendations?

Update 1909 failed: 0x8007042B - 0x3000D

Hi everyone,

I received an error installing any new feature update. It doesn't matter if it's 1809, 1903 or 1909.

I always received the same error code after installing the update: 0x8007042B

Cannot update Dell XPS 13 9380 on Windows 1809 to 1903 or 1909: (0x8007042B - 0x2000D)

There may be some movement on this situation. There is another user trying the suggested fix, although you may not need to take all the steps the linked post suggests..

I tried to update to the latest version of Windows 10 but I couldn't. I would like to know how to fix the problem urgently. Due to the previous version of Windows, I was not able to install either.
