Windows 10: Windows 10 Updates 1803 and 1809 Fail to install - Error 0xC1900101 0x30017

I have tried everything recommended in similar threads to install updates 1803 and 1809 (my PC is still stuck at 1709):


PC is Dell XPS 8700 with i7-4790, 24GB of RAM, 64-bit processor, 64-bit Windows 10 OS, Latest BIOS A13

• Deleted all old installation directories
• There is (never was) any anti-malware software (other than Windows defender)
• Removed all USB devices other than Microsoft wired mouse and keyboard
• Ran Windows Update Troubleshooter
• Clean Boot (disabled all startup items in msconfig and Task Manager)
  
• Tried all three methods: Windows Update, manually from Microsoft website, and using USB Media Creation Tool

The error is exactly the same on every attempt: "We couldn't install Windows 10... Installation failed in FIRST_BOOT... 0xC1900101 0x30017.


I've been pausing updates for 6 months now to avoid the endless update failure cycle. What is the fix for this?

I've pasted the results of all three drives into the same text file. Drives F,E & C(OS) in that order.

I guess I'm ready with the backups too. I have a backup from a week or so back and that should be enough if need be. I've also familiarized myself with the Driver Verifier procedure. So, that will be the next step, right?

edit: I've since made a find. Yesterday, I made the mistake of not searching whole of C: for the drivers. I only looked in the Windows folder. The LUMDriver happens to belong to one of the softwares I've installed: CATIA. Maybe uninstalling it should take care of that, hopefully.
@zbook - would it be OK for me to run the driver verfier now or should I first try uninstalling CATIA?

I'm done with the memory test after a 21 hr marathon. Hope never have to do that again. All 8 passes completed without any errors, thankfully. I've split the screenshots because my phone has difficulty capturing text from a full-screen.












I'll give my computer a bit of rest for today and resume the Driver Verifier first thing tomorrow. Having invested so much time into it, I kind of want to see a favorable closure to the whole mess*Biggrin

We do understand all of that and appreciate the sheer scale of OS development. But it's very frustrating when it's on a large scale like this. If it were a simple case of updating the drivers and getting on with it, it wouldn't be as annoying. Anyway we'll go ahead and hope it all turns out well (although I'm still a bit pessimistic about the driver updates *Tongue)

Also, a repair install as mentioned above is something to consider maybe.

edit: It seems Windows has auto updated the Intel graphics driver via windows updates to the exact same one that was uninstalled. That should give a second chance to the driver with the verifier. Will report back how it turns out.
