Windows 10: Windows 10 updates still freezing 3 yrs later

Yes, to start, I've searched and read multiple articles and forum posts on this with no solution to date that has worked.


I've been having this issue for quite some time now. I've been able to get a few of the RC updates and the 2018 one that others had issues with by creating a new disk from the ISO download. But today, I installed the Xbox Connect program or whatever it's called since I can't get into my pc and it forced an update. It got to some point and after doing a power cycle 3 times the last time sticking on 89% - which is common for me between 85-91. At around 4 hours I gave up and after a few power cycles it undid the update and regressed to the old Win10 version.

It's running on a Gateway DX4860-UB32P i3-2120 CPU @ 3.30 GHz that has been modified with a 176 GB solid state drive and maxed out to 6 GB RAM from Crucial about a year ago.

Has there been any tips on things that may be screwing with these update installs? Is there a recommended step to take like shutting off AV, startup setting change or anything to maybe help prevent this?


Has there been any common denominator for people having this issue? I can do another ISO install to get the update, but it obviously shouldn't require that.

Windows Vista Wont Install Freezes?

had the same problem, freezes and long installation including each step loading, in my case a bios update helped.
