Windows 10: Windows 10 Upgrade Deleted My Desktop Files

I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 this morning.


After initially having trouble signing in I was getting a strange error about not being able to log into my account - I don't remember the error name, I customized my desktop and moved all of my old desktop files images, photoshop projects, sounds, file shortcuts, etc to my new desktop C:\users\windows.old\desktop -> C:\users\logan\desktop.


After restarting the computer a few hours later, almost all of my desktop customization had been reset, and the desktop itself had all non-shortcut files removed ONLY shortcuts to programs remained, file shortcuts were also gone.


I have dug and dug through my C drive and found NONE of the unique files I had kept on my desktop. Despite this, my Quick Access is displaying one of the unique files now gone as existing in my desktop.

Clicking to run that sound, pyke sfx.mp3, throws an error in VLC about not being able to play the file.


Adobe Acrobat Reader does a similar thing with another unique file of mine, my resume.



The file does not exist anywhere.


Please help!


Further, I'm running into a strange issue where my file explorer isn't displaying all of the contents actually on my desktop when I go to My Desktop. Screenshot of my desktop and the file explorer contents:



I have a hunch the two issues are related.

windows 10 deleted my desktop files

Step 1 - I upgraded to Win 10 and lost all my files on Desktop.

Step 2 - Found the files in Network - USers- Desktop

copied all files again to desktop.

Step 3- Restarted my machine again and lost desktop files again.

Step 4 - As suggested did the following as listed below but dont find my files.

• Press “Windows + E”, open This PC/Computer
• Open Local Disc C, open Windows.old
• Click on Users, select your User name
• Go to desktop folder

Cant find my files. Why is Win 10 deleted files again and again from Desktop ?.

Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Cant Delete Files From Desktop

Well, ran into a weird bug with vista, for some reason i cant delete files from desktop, this normaly happens to .exe files, the ONLY fix seems to be to KILL explorer.exe, and delete the file, then restat explorer, anybody got any idea why this happens?
