Windows 10 upgrade fails on Windows 7 PC

Thanks Pumpkin. To be quite honest, I don't like to uninstall something just because of upgrading a windows version. It should not have to be. Is this NVIDIA's problem or is it Windows problem? Keep us updated if you find anything please. Thanks for your efforts.

  3. I have the exact model as you, and the difference with mine is that I just get a black screen after 75%. It goes no further. I've left it running for a weekend to see if it was just taking time. Thankfully, it always reverts back to Win 8.1 after I force it to reboot twice.

  4. Windows 10 upgrade fails on Windows 7 PC

I have a ET2701INTI with Windows 7 Pro and yep, same problema than you guys. I read on ASUS website that the problema might be on drivers and BIOS (they recomend to make some changes on BIOS). The question is, when I go F2 to BIOS setting, those options don't appear!!

I try to make a BIOS update without sucess. It seems that Windows 10 upgrade is not possible. *sarc

I'm banking on either Asus, Nvidia or MS coming up with a fix for this at some point. Do post if you have any success. I'm not sure it would be the bios but worth a shot. You may need to hit the F2 key a bit earlier in the re-boot.

Nvidia have released a new driver for the GT 640M (for the video card found in the ASUS ET2701INTI ) ver. 355.82. After updating, it might be worth having another crack at the Win10 install. Download Drivers | NVIDIA

    Hello,

I have the same problem as everyone in this thread. I have a Medion Akoya P6640 laptop with a GeForce GT 740M. Nvidia is definitely the culprit here - turning off the graphics card in the device manager stops the BSOD, but of course, it's merely a temporary solution. Uninstalling the drivers and installing an old version (353.30, 352.84) doesn't work, either. None of these problems arise when using 8.1 Pro that I was upgrading from, with either version of the driver.

I will imagine that Microsoft will do nothing about this issue, but Nvidia doesn't seem eager to fix this issue. If anyone finds any solution for this, I'm all ears.

If you cannot find drivers for the new Windows 10 specifically from your device manufacturer (and GPU manufacturer if you have one installed), it is my own humble opinion that the system not be upgraded. Chances are the internal computer hardware was created specifically for older systems, and upgrading runs the risk of stability or speed issues in the future.

The choice is yours, but my own experience tells me driver problems are a major headache personally.

Is there anyone here who knows they have drivers provided by their computer/motherboard manufacturer online specific for Windows 10, but are still having issues upgrading? Because those people my have success following these tutorials on the old operating system before upgrading:
DISM - Repair Windows 10 Image - Windows 10 Forums
SFC Command - Run in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

  9. Hi David, I have similar problem, upgrading would not work and it is always to do with the video card driver, must of downloaded 4 or 5 times. Decided on doing a dual boot eventually got one to work and I noticed the NVidia drivers hadn't loaded that's why it worked, I also found older NVidia drivers that worked, turned off all privacy and did what I found on the web to stop any updates happening. I installed antivirus, a couple of programs, everything working fine for a week until one day it said when I shut it down just making changes to computer in other words it had downloaded updates. Now it goes into a continuous boot loop I cant even get to safe mode I know with the updates its changed the graphics driver to the latest version which doesn't work with our system, this is microsofts fault by not allowing you to turn off updates and ASUS DONT WANT TO HELP and I bought this pc only 2 years ago brand new, asus could probably solve the problem but I think all these firms just want to make us buy new pc's. Microsoft has known through all their operating systems that there can be a lot of problems when doing updates (SO WHY FORCE IT ON PEOPLE ) and that's why you turn them off until you know that they are okay to install, some people can't afford to lose everything they have on their computer. i'm sure windows 10 is very good but there is somethings that need to be changed before we upgrade or they want us to just buy a new one , I paid 2300 for my ASUS and now really disgusted with them.

UPDATE finally got into safe mode , checked graphics driver and yes Microsoft installed latest, so reinstalled old driver , there is an area were you can tick to stop ms drivers being added, so ticked that but other people have said that it doesn't work. so I also decided to connect with wifi instead of Ethernet and then tick restrict my connection so it only downloads the small necessary updates not the drivers as it thinks you have a limited connection, you can only do this in wifi and not the Ethernet connection another ms mistake. restarted windows 10 and all worked good, this is still not the answer and I still haven't been able to upgrade my 8.1 I have a few ideas up my sleeve but it is my main OS and don't have the time.

Thanks nossers - this seems to have solved it for me too. As per the link you provided, I downloadedthe "Intel INF Update Driver" file from ET2701INKI | All-in-One PCs | ASUS Global
and installed. I then tried to upgrade to Windows 10 again. Frustratingly (to put it mildly), on reboot the same error and loop happened again!! After shouting and almost throwing the computer out the window, from within safemode I installed the INF file again and voila, it works! Two days now and after windows updates and multiple restarts, it's still working perfectly. Very pleased *Smile

Windows 10 upgrade fails on Windows 7 PC

Bad news. Major Windows update messed it up again. This time could not find a way to rectify. Luckily still had 2 days left to revert to Windows 8.1. Arghh! *Sad
