  1. Windows 10 upgrade... Outlook 2010 not working.

Went through the same process with same level of success, despite the guy on the other end doing his best. Given the link to your solution by a fellow sufferer and Twitter user.
I've tried to do what you've suggested, all permissions seem to be allowed now for all my Outlook accounts but still can't access them (the permissions bit of the error message has now gone however).

Anyone have any ideas?? Ready to bat Windows 10 into the reeds!

HEY! I GOT IT CURED!! On advice, I opened a command prompt as an administrator, and typed in > "sfc /SCANNOW" ...and within 20mins it had repaired it!! I can send email again. (Hopefully this fix will remain intact too).

Windows 10 upgrade... Outlook 2010 not working.

Seems upgrading to windows 10 moves some of the files that outlook needs to work to the wrong location, using 'sfc /SCANNOW' from an elevated command prompt replaces them in the correct folders.

I would suggest disabling OneDrive as a temporary fix, (you may need to unlink your OneDrive account from your pc first) then wait for a patch...This is a HUGE, global issue, it has to be addressed eventually...Pls spread the word! *Smile

Windows 10 upgrade... Outlook 2010 not working.

    Hi there

Cloud services always have risks of "Data access". I simply avoid using One drive. To switch it off go to the settings in the system tray and turn it off and EXIT.

Outlook 2010 works fine in W10 -- I use IMAP rather than POP3 so if I want to copy mail FROM the server on to local data then I just copy / move it to the LOCAL folder which for OUTLOOK 2010 is stored in your Users folder -->documents-->outlook files on the C drive. The file name should be outlook.pst which you can open at any time.

POP3 does strange things as I think it can hose things up if you read email on a variety of different machines. I'd advise sticking to IMAP for email.

Why bother with One drive when your mail is already "in the cloud" (on your Mail server -- seems pointless to go from Cloud to Cloud !!!). Again I'd advise you to switch to IMAP if you aren't already doing so.

    Cheers

  9. Can't remember how I found this in the end but here is the solution for my particular problem that none of the solutions offered above managed to resolve. The bit that seemed to fix it for me was accessing c:\users and following those steps (resetting permissions in the outlook folder only didn't work for me ).

Thank you. I saw someone else post later in this thread about archive files, etc. I used your solution on every file in QuickAccess/Documents/Outlook folder and was able to open Outlook 2010. I have tested sending an e-mail (others in the thread had problems), and fortunately, that also was successful.

I appreciate this forum. No disrespect, but I hope I don't have to visit it often

Well I fixed the problem once and then rebooted and now Outlook 2010 says "Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook Window. The set of folders cannot be opened. The file C:\Users\Tammy\Documents\Outlook Files\myemailaddress.pst cannot be opened." The thing is I don't remember my email address being my pst file before. And the file was created yesterday when my computer rebooted.

I have no idea how to sort that out, have you though about reverting back to your original windows. You have 1 month to do that in.

Windows 10 upgrade... Outlook 2010 not working.

Well, Windows 10 rebooted my machine overnight. I hadn't gotten around to opening my Outlook 2010, but after seeing your response Angeltam I tried it and the same thing happened.

When I go and try to do the same thing I did before - in terms of changing the security for the file - I briefly see the system-generated user rather than myself as the HomeUser. Then it disappears and the Home User appears.

I am now in a loop in terms of checking the file security and then trying to open Outlook 2010, but after four times, I need to try something else.

I'm not quite comfortable enough about restoring a previous version to try that - but it might come to that. But, then, I'd have to turn off Windows 10 automatic updates.

    Ah, the struggles.

When I know more, I'll post it. Likewise, please.

    Thanks, Anne

Hi again - FIXED it on my machine. The message is precise and the phrase "the set of folders cannot be opened" means that no longer do the individual files needs fixing but the folder housing them is the one that was missing the proper security authorizations for HomeUser. I fixed this - like I did file by file yesterday, and Outlook 2010 opened fine.

Good luck with it all, Anne

    Diane,

I actually had to go under C: Users Properties Security and change to full control there. Diane try that... it fixed my issue. Let me know how it works for you Windows 10 upgrade... Outlook 2010 not working. :)
