Windows 10: Windows 10 version 1909 not installing updates. error code:0x80070002

I stopped windows update service for some reason and forgot to start it. I am now stuck at version 1909. Started the service, and tried installing the updates. Other updates were installed but the feature update failed to install with error code: 0x80070002. It happened 2 times. Tried Update assistant but the installation failed once again at 55%21H1. I deleted software distribution folder files. It still failed3 times.Also, Windows Update Medic Service is disabled in services Access in denied box pops up, when trying to change the startup type. Error 0x80070002 when trying to update Windows

I have been having issues for months with Windows 10 updates failing due to Error 0x80070002 on my gaming laptop. The full message reads:

2019-06 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1803 for x64-based Systems (KB4503286) -Error 0x80070002.

I am currently on version 1803 (OS Build 17134.590) and I'm being told "You're currently running a version of windows that's nearing the end of support. We recommend you update to the most recent version of Windows 10 now to get the latest features and security improvements."

I have followed the instructions on Error Code 0x80070002 Fixed – Eassos Step-by-Step Tutorial but this hasn't resolved the problem. Does anybody know how to fix this?

 

0x80070002 error code in windows update

My windows 10 version is Home, 20H2. Build 19042.630I'm trying to download cumulative update KB4592438. I keep getting 0x80070002 error code.






I also ran the windows troubleshooter and it says that it fixed the issue, but I still keep getting the same error. Here's the detailed report.



I also did multiple reboots of my laptop. I ran sfc/scannow but it didn't find any errors. What should I do to resolve this issue?

 

2004 update windows 10 error 0x80070002

Hello everyone,

thanks to some of the suggestions here and to some from other sources I have managed to fix the 0x80070002 error breaking up my feature update to 2004.

For completeness' sake and since it may help others, the following steps worked for me.

1. Download Media Creation Tool from Microsoft's official website
2. Create a bootable USB drive with the MCT
3. Boot up from this USB Drive
4. Choose install settings, click 'Next', but on the next screen select "Repair your computer" instead of "Install"
5. Choose "Troubleshoot" -> "Startup Repair" and let it finish
6. Restart into Windows and attempt the usual Windows update

It looks like the BCD on my computer had been damaged by the boot loader (Windows 10 + Recovery partition) and running the "Startup Repair" from the installation USB Drive corrected the errors.
