    Windows 10 Version 20H2 will not install the 21H1 update 0x80004005.


    I have done most of the troubleshooting steps:1 Clear Software Distribution Folder2 Delete Temp files, Clean up Recycle and System files3 Ensure that jscript.dll and vbscript.dll are registered4 Added Key LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy for 64-bit systems to "1"5 Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter6 Disabled Norton Protection Auto-Protect and Smart Firewall7 Disabled Outlook Notifications8 Removed USB DriveNOTHING WORKS Alienware Aurora R7Windows Update does not ever show me the 21H1 Update but Alienware/Dell shows my machine as being fine - so does the Windows Update Assistant

    installation of Windows 20H2 has failed 0x80004005

    I dont like 20H2 lots of issues download 21H1 and Clean install. Runs smooth as butter, they fixed ALOT of issues. If you want a Legal Link let me know.

    installation of Windows 20H2 has failed 0x80004005

    The installation of Windows 20H2 has failed (current version 1909). After downloading from Windows Update site and ran it, it produced an error code 0x80004005 and suggested to try again. But that also failed.
    The SetupDiagResults.log file shows the following error message
    Error: SetupDiag reports abrupt down-level failure.
    Last Operation: Finalize
    Error: 0x80004005 - 0x60016
    LogEntry: 2021-03-14 08:52:54, Error SP Operation failed: Update Boot Code. Error: 0x80004005[gle=0x000000b7]
    What does it mean and how can I succeed in installing the 20H2 version?

    Issue(s) with 21H1 Update

    The Windows update list of installed updates has always been a confusing & incomplete list. I don't think you had a problem at all.
