  1. Windows 10 VPN Server not working

For years I have used the built-in Windows VPN server. I have W10 Pro 64-bit. Lately, I have been unable to connect and get the following Event ID 20209 error:

A connection between the VPN server and the VPN client xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx has been established, but the VPN connection cannot be completed. The most common cause for this is that a firewall or router between the VPN server and the VPN client is not configured to allow Generic Routing Encapsulation GRE packets protocol 47.

I suspect this is incorrect as the VPN stopped working even though I changed nothing on my PC except install the usual W10 updates. I know the router is not the problem or this error message would not appear. VPN passthrough is enabled on the router. Protocol 47 is enabled on my Norton firewall. Disabling the firewall does not help. Netstat -a reveals 0.0.0.0 is listening to port 1723, but no other IP is listening to port 1723. As I said before, the VPN worked perfectly until it didn't. The only changes were windows updates. I suspect the updates are the culprit, and MS hasn't fixed it.

Can anyone help me restore my VPN to a useable state?

    Bob

    :)

  2. VPN Server on Windows 10 not Working

Windows 10 uses the same method as the previous versions of Windows. However, Windows 10 appears to have a bug. It becomes clear when you do this:

    • Delete any existing incoming VPN connections.
    • Reboot the machine.
    • Create an incoming VPN connection.
    • Type this command in a Command Console:

netstat -a | find "1723"The command should report that the machine is listening on port 1723. Your VPN server is now working.
    • Shut down Windows, then restart it.
    • Try this command again:

      netstat -a | find "1723"

The command will probably report nothing about port 1723. Your VPN server is no longer working.
The problem appears to be caused by the Windows 7 "Fast Startup Option". You can disable it by following this path:

Control Panel / Power Options / Change what the power buttons do / Change settings that are currently unavailable / remove the mark from the Fast Startup tick box.

Your VPN server should now survive a reboot.

BTW - Multiposting is frowned upon in these forums because it leads to duplication of effort. I suggest you either remove
your duplicate post or include a link to this thread in it.

  4. Windows 10 VPN Server not working

    Vpn ( trusted Vpn)

    AirVPN

In contrast to all the big names such as IPVanish, TorGuard, Hide My Ass!, PIA etc, AirVPN has been the most useful in terms of performance, cost, privacy and service.

    • No torrent (or other format) throttling
    • No region/server locking
    • Full server stats live, with reports and repair ETAs
    • Packages include complete tunneling and multiple protocols
    • Can be setup for virtually any platform(including a easy to use Windows package)[also user guides exist for bespoke arrangements, such as pfSense, which I run]
    • Their website/user portal is very thorough and flexible. You can build custom VPN configuration files
    • Cost is extremely good for what you get
    • Service is often quick and prompt
    • Forums are active
    • They tick all the privacy qualifications, no record keeping
