Windows 10: Windows 10 vs. DVD

Hi to all

If Frederik Long reads this; I appreciate your response to my recent tirade, which was not directed at individuals, but was the result of 3 weeks of frustration.

This is my first post, it is true, but I have been attempting to resolve the problem as set out below, by myself, including reference to this forum; which I believe is what the knowledge base is all about.


The problem is a known one: it has not produced a viable solution to my knowledge, but most previous posts go back some time.


Four weeks ago, I purchased a HP Slim desktop 290-A0002A to replace a tired Dell Vostro 400 which I had used for mail and accounting, essentially.

The HP has a vertical mounted drawer style DVD drive PLDS DVDRW DU8AESH USB device optical drive and pre-installed Win10 Home.


Following first-time setup, I uploaded Win10 updates, incl. the latest version, etc., only to discover that the DVD drive was not only gone from Device Mgr. and the BIOS, but that DVD was no longer supported by Win10. Naturally, it did not function as a DVD drive with media/software inserted.

Since then, after I had tried various restore point maneuvers, I rolled back to the previous version of Win10 home, where the DVD had functioned, but while I can now discover the drive in DevMgr., it carries a code 45 … all investigations down this little code 45 rabbit burrow have proven fruitless...


I should mention that one of more recent enquiries re this was via "Debbie...." someone or other. No solution was forthcoming, that I could see.


Question:

Is there a workaround; a rollback; a 'patch', or some solution that may be applied so that win10 can recognize and allow this DVD hardware to function as it was intended? HP have no assistance, either with software/drivers or communication.

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Steps:

• Press Windows key, type troubleshooting
  and select it.
• Click on View all in the left pane.
• Click onWindows Media Player DVD and follow the onscreen instructions.
