Max out your RAM, use all by some application, and see will it freeze.
    That's whats happening to me.

You have topic in general about my problem under windows errors title.

For me also works fine, untill I max out the RAM, freezes keyboard and mouse but sound works.

It's near impossible for me to max out 16GB of RAM. I have one game that will use about 8 to 12 GB of RAM but even with the OS using something like 2 more and a slew of chrome windows open I can't max out 16GB but I'm going to try as best as I can tonight and just open everything I possibly can to see what the limits really are even if that type of environment use of the O.S., isn't the way that I'd normally use it.

  3. Agreed. Not only is W10 lacking in the customization department, it is full of bugs, for a majority of the users, unstable, have to do nothing but tweaks and reg hacks to get certain normal features back that should have never been removed in the first place. Such as windows & borders & titlebars full customization is gone (unless reg hacked), photo viewer was removed (return with reg hack) and yes for the lot of people freezes, crashes, just overall doesn't run properly. I dont think they were finished on July 29th and released a rushed/unfinished product.

Oh and I already have had the set bug described in this thread, thank god I figured it out, I posted the solution in the gaming section. There is a lag bug in Starcraft 2 that goes away when you remove the unremoveable XBOX APP. Yes, even though I don't own an XBOX I had to powershell remove the app in order to make SC2 work and the lag go away.

Also GTA V has a memory leak, in 8.1 it used 2.5GB of RAM, in W10 it uses 3.5GB of RAM (on an empty system) compared to 8.1 which was loaded with software, and in W10 hard disk activity is at 100% for some unknown system process that I am trying to figure out what's causing it on GTA V and W10. Thank god I'm not using a SSD because that 100% HDD activity would be killing the drive with unnecessary writes.

Don't understand what was the point of the insider program when they removed all the features anyways. The slogan should have been "Windows 10 for PC Users .. we just don't care"

I like W7, but 8.1 runs great if you install Classic Shell/Start8 for the Start Menu, and remove the charms bar. It's seamless after that, and it runs really really good. I just never go into metro interface. I have no idea WTF they did in W10, its like the 2nd gen of ME.

From what I've seen, Windows 10 is just as stable as 7 or 8.1, which is pretty good considering 7 and 8.1 have had years of bug fixes. Many people who are having problems either upgraded a broken 7/8.1 install or are trying to run 10 on unstable/unsupported hardware, but they want to blame Windows 10.

Supported, updated than clean install, freezing.
Like I said before, mine will not freeze if I use Chrome or something what won't max out my RAM.
When I use 3,8 out of 4GB, by FL Studio and Kontakt 5 vst, than freeze occurs, I can hear sound but keyboard and mouse can't do anything.

If its something with RAM, it would shutdown with some error, hdd it would be loud.
My PC is almost new, bought it last year in September I think. Never had such problem on Windows 7.

    Windows 10 build 10041 - System/hard locks - Microsoft Insider Previews - Neowin Forums

Read links and see that many ppl have problem with this.

I used enterprise, you maybe use pro, and that's where could be catch about someone has and someone has not problems with freezing.

  6. But Microsoft is INDEED partly to blame for pushing folks to upgrade Windows 7 SP1 or 8.1 to Windows 10. And don't say Microsoft didn't push anyone to upgrade. Those relentless upgrade nags were enough to cause someone to have a coronary. Those who may not have known better would have blindly followed instructions to stop the nagging updates, thereby upgrading a less than stellar candidate machine.

Yes I did use Pro, but I doubt if Enterprise would have a stability problem that wasn't in all other versions. What are you doing with an Enterprise version anyway? Also, are you overclocking? Be honest.

    Not overclocking.
I don't know, but I asked many people that had no freezing, and all are using PRO, Iguessed right that you use it too.
Could be reason that some added functionality in enterprise makes glitch.

I am just now downgrading to windows 7, and will watch if this gets some fix.

If I was alone I could say hardware, but many ppl hear sound, and pc freezes.

To add more info about what I experienced, it is just weird lockup, num lock stays on, if i unplugg and plug again can't turn on numlock, it is hard lock of system.
If that something has to be caused by hardware it will not work after restart, mine logical thinking.
Like it locks USB ports, maybe it locks hdd, maybe ram, many things can happen, bad thing is you cant move mouse to check whats working whats not, and you get nothin in system logs.
Usually when my RAM was bad pc would turn off with some error saying sync flood, and always will have something in system logs about hardware problem.

Also, I can't see connection in some ppls thoughts that could be graphic driver, graphic won't stop usb.

Never experienced such lock up before, indeed.

I didn't have any problem doing the upgrade from Win7 to WIn10. It went fairly smooth; and my older PC is quite responsive running Win10.

But I do have some concerns regarding the privacy issues in Win10. For example, what about all of the MS defaults such as the following: "We'll collect info like contacts, recent calendar events, speech and handwriting patterns, and typing history." IMO, that is ridiculous and NOT necessary even for people who want to use Cortana. And what about the privacy setting (under general) which states, "Let apps use my advertising ID for experiences across apps." Now, we all know we don't have total privacy when we go online. But I think those default settings take it a bit too far. I have turned many of those features off, but have not performed any registry hacks to take it a step further (such as getting rid of telemetry).

One other thing which is a bit perplexing, why does my SSD seem to be working so much more than in Win7? I often hear those little clicks in the background on my SSD when all I am doing is reading web pages. (Note: I've turned off the setting which uses bitTorrents by default). But I wonder how much housekeeping or other activities are going on in the background? I don't recall this being an issue before I upgraded to Win10.

Aside from these issues, I think Win10 holds a lot of promise going forward, particularly when they get the bugs sorted out that have plagued some people. And it's certainly has the feel of a more modern OS versus Win7. I just think MS needs to strike the right balance in regards to privacy and the user experience online.

I've installed Windows 10 on 4 computers from old Atom to Core i7, I had a problem upgrading with 2 so upgraded from ISO. I've had no dramas since upgrading. My old Atom boots much, much faster than than on 7 or 8 and generally runs smoother.
I love using apps from the online store, saves me wandering around all over the Internet and they're nice and easy to uninstall if I don't like them.
I can't understand people still using an outdated OS like 7 unless you just like museum pieces or have some old programme that won't run on 8 or 10.
I can understand people having problems with laptops as they often have a very strict line of drivers, most PCs should be okay, but there are always exceptions.

Defender is my #1 instability source
    - roughly once in 5 installs, it will refuse to go away as it should, creating havoc.
So please do the necessary steps to disable it completely, just to be safe

    Net framework optimization comes second
    - happens rarely, one time paint.net installs in seconds, another time it takes ages, and you can't do much while that happens (it supposed to run at idle times and be async, but it seems something is wrong with it)

Third is the Start menu and taskbar Search. It just won't launch at times, you need to click on icons several times. Disabling Cortana completely does cure most of the issues.

Fourth comes Xbox and it's Game bar
    - definitely a memory leak since I've seen a whooping 57 processes hogging resources. Who's the idiot that come up with the idea to slap that thing on every window opened by the user, no matter if it's a picture viewer, a text editor, a game. Online games with anti-cheating solutions will not like it for sure.

    Everything else is user error
    - trying to use custom themes? logon screens? you are asking for trouble!
    - trying to use registry tweaks etc blindly? bad idea - make sure it was verified to work on Windows 10 without side-effects

But there's more. You will bump into many apps breaking or having issues in 10
    - Like for example Mumble. That was rock solid in 7 or 8. Same settings: everything disabled (osd etc). Push to talk. And to my surprise today when I launched some Dota 2, whenever I've pushed the key to speak, fps dropped really low in-game. Good thing I quickly notice it, double-checked settings, changed some, changed the keyboard shortcut and eventually it went away.

Also, a bit off-topic, but I finally got 10 to have on-par performance with 8.1 in Dota 2 - I don't know exactly what the issue was since I was hitting a wall when it comes to micro-stuttering - but I know for sure now It's not the Nvidia driver. When I sort it out trough all the registry tweaks, policy tweaks, uninstalling components, disabling system devices/drivers - I might post it for fellow tenforumers willing to risk a reset *Smile

Techspot's test results seem to say all three are roughly comparable speedwise. Most comments seem to agree with that assessment. I don't believe that's a universal truth. I do a weekly backup including a system image using Windows Backup and Restore. With Windows 7 that process always took between 45 minutes and an hour. With Windows 10, the one time I've done it, took 1 hour and 45minutes, over twice as long. That really surprised me. Before running the backup, I too would have said Windows 10 speed is comparable to Win 7, but having the hard time figures showed something else.

I am not a Windows 10 fan, it has nothing over 7 or 8/8.1 in my opinion. Cortana isn't an issue since I already have Google Voice and Edge, let's face it, is a dog. Perhaps in several years they might get the bugs out.

We have 8 computers in the household and will continue to keep the ones that are Windows 7 and 8 and 8.1 as they are, I see no reason to upgrade, NONE. Other than trying to get rid of the stupid GWX icon. (uninstalled it and turned updates off) It angers me if you tell it you don't want the update, it should remove it. But there again it just MS trying to force feed everyone. Personally, I don't know why people would want Windows 10, unless they have a pirated copy. IMHO
